Ralph, it would make more sense if you look at my comments as a response. The dust comment was in response to Danny's comment and the Apollo 13 was the movie made.
Ragingbull:
The reason that it is a serious point of contention is that she asked about my family. I proudly told her of some of my father's accomplishments. If she held a belief that it was a fraud she should have held her tongue. I am proud of my father and family. I want a peaceful and loving home. For here to state that my father's life work was a fraud was disrespectful at the very foundation of a Christian home. It was not as simple as the contention over the moon landing, but a lack of respect to what would have been our common children's ancestry. It is not impossible that we cannot work through this, but it much more complicated in a home than in jousting on this forum.
Huck, I have learned that Russian women do not hesitate to speak their mind without even considering the effect it may have. I mean the speak before you think kind of mentality. Then realize that given more thought perhaps I (she) should have kept quiet.
RB - I realized you were giving a movie in response to previous question. But you can't edit the forum after you post.
Considering that the main problem to this whole moon landing actually being done would be cost, and given that the vast majority of cost would entail building an enormous rocket powerful enough to fly into orbit, and given that they actually DID build an enormous rocket, that really did fly into orbit (unless this is also in dispute, in which case you'd have to disprove the 1000's of people who saw it live, and the millions who saw it on TV), then I suppose the question to ask is - if they'd already gone to the trouble of putting a space module in space, with a bunch of astronauts in it, why not just go a bit further and actually go to the moon?
To go to all of that incredible expense to do the first part, it seems a bit daft to fake the second part just for 'bragging rights', wouldn't you agree?
There's also the fact that many nations around the world tracked the progress of the module to the moon, and back again - including Australia (Parkes in NSW if I'm not mistaken). For this to be fake, every government, including yours, mine and even the Soviets, would have to be 'in on it' (and the Soviets just wouldn't have done that as a favour to the American's now, would they?)
So, here's what would have to have happened: They build the rocket (one of the most expensive vehicles in the history of mankind), they put astronauts on it in full view of everyone, they shoot it into space, they fly to the moon with lots of nations watching and tracking them (including their main rival, which has a LOT to gain from disproving them), they 'wait' out there for a while, then they fly back and land (again, in front of a worldwide viewing audience). They do all that, but just don't land on the moon?
Sounds to me like actually landing the thing for a few days would have been easier than faking a photoshoot. If they really DID land, then why do the photo's somewhere else? The only reason to even suspect such a thing is that someone who thinks they know a lot about photography (but nothing about astrophysics) once thought the photo's looked 'a bit dodgy', and put some conspiracy theory on the net. Not a single claim that's been made about these photo's is without a reasonable defence (as far as I'm aware). This really is a case of a few conspiracy theorists, with poorly researched claims, against documented and cross-referenceable data from qualified agencies around the world.
I guess you just have to choose which to believe.

Danny, correct me if I'm wrong, but Tasmania is a state of Australia, not a separate country?
Speaking of Colorado, my wife wants to visit Niagara Falls (slowly I turned...) To her dismay she is not allowed to go into Canada until her new status arrives. Interesting that many folks, even 'mericans don't realize that you must go into Canada to truly experience the falls.
Now I wonder, does anyone believe we sent a robot to Mars? And sorry to report, because I am sure someone believes there are little green men on mars, that we didn't get any pictures of little green men. Of course they could be hiding. Or perhaps it is a hoax and they landed in Australia.
Does Australia have a 'bigfoot'? That mythological half man-half ape type creature? Or a 'little foot'?
So, we fly to the moon (225,622miles), but going an extra few miles is too much trouble? The distances involved require your analogy to be adjusted a little, Dan. It would be more like me flying the 14,000 miles to Sydney for the exact purpose of fishing in that creek, and after flying that distance, driving from the airport to the creek and walking to the waterfront, just standing with a fishing rod in my hand but deciding it's too much trouble to put it in the water. Where would be the sense in deciding to then, after going all that way and getting to the water's edge, going off to a photo studio to get some photoshopping done? Sure it's possible, but wouldn't that actually be more work and more expense, when just sticking the rod in the water would be simple?
Regarding making money, the Apollo project cost over $135 billion. Even if they could eventually make it all back and make a profit (and I'm not saying they ever did), that's a lot of initial outlay, isn't it?
If ever you call Vodafone to recharge your credit, you'll be calling the Tasmania call centre :)
Ralph, the Australian equivalent of bigfoot is the bunyip.
Huck Finn @#^#^! Sorry this has gotten out of hand. If she is a reasonable person you should be able to discuss it with her and make sense out of it. People are basically a product of their environment. Remember, there are people living in America who still think 'blacks' are the devil reincarnate. The KKK is still going strong. Isolationism breeds contempt. And she is still a product of her culture of the past. Being respectful to your elders and traditions is good. But until she is educated otherwise she will always believe what she was 'told to believe'.
She moved to Oz when she was 3. Lived in the NT for 10 years, then moved to Perth where she still is (lived in the UK for 7 years with me). Her mum's a born and bred Phil (still barely speaks English), her natural dad is African American, and her adopted dad who moved them to Oz is a Pomme from Ipswich - so she's a melting pot of different nationalities...
Actually the Ozone is/was a hotel/motel in Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, all I can recall, 20 years on, is it was budget accommodation, by international standards, and one of the pilots I was sharing the room with bloody snoring all night.
I have no idea of the name of the pub in Kingscote, I was only in there for one small beer, that's how bad/smelly it was, and all I can recall is the bar with a bloke's bare feet upon it!
Oh, and there was 'Pelican Pete's' in town, good for a crayfish sandwich.
And, yes, somwhere I still have the pics of seal bay, the wildlife conservation area at the far end of Kangaroo Island, and indeed the pics of us jump-starting our aircraft from the Kingcote Airport fuel truck and ..... how are/were landing/navigation fees paid at Kingscote Airport ... there is a 'honesty box' as one approaches the terminal building!
