What I meant: "Its CHEAP to send an SMS in Ukraine and the same price to send one in UKRAINE.
Since 2007 - I probably have explained this five time here in the forum - and I have explained it on Romances Socials. And the response is always the same - guys say "Hey that's great! Wow. Thanks for telling me about that!"
ONLY Looney has taken me through so much hassle - starting out by asking me if I was SNIFFING GLUE? Denying it left and right. And STILL he doesn't get it.
Looney - You are right. It doesn't work. You need a special magic phone from the planet Garbazoga to make it work - and you need a special tariff plan from Finland and Croatia. And it cost $100 per SMS. Yup. You've got it. You are right, And I am wrong. Now stop reading here please. Don't read the next paragraph.
To the REST of you guys - it works great - no special phone - just an unlocked one nd just a regular MTC number with a scratch card - and your girl can send you SMSs as if YOu were in Ukraine.
LR1701 wrote: "What jet never mentioned,, is that you needed to use a special phone and an “appropriate tariff plan”! It doesn’t sound like a “cheap way” to communicate."
The girl doesnt need anything special to do it. her SMS cost is the same. reloads over 50UAH give you 150 SMS free.
Now YOUR phone DOES need a global plan such as "one world" to work but the cost is significantly cheaper than US carriers.
From the US each outgoing SMS will cost 1.99UAH or about 25 cents. KEEP IN MIND that this only works with a true "unlocked" phone
and you must not believe your carrier when they claim a phone is unlocked because that is not true.
I experimented a bit further on this issue with my Sprint purchased Motorola "international" phone and Blackberry. Sprint claims
both phones are unlocked but its not actually true. Neither phone will allow another SIM to work while you are within the Sprint
coverage area, ie. USA, CANADA, Bahamas. Even WITH the Life:) SIM inserted it STILL operated on Sprint's network as if the Life:) card
wasnt even in there.
Likewise, while in Ukraine, or in Nicaragua for that matter, even with a foreign carrier's SIM card inserted, such as Life:) or Movistar
you are limited to voice and SMS only. It is NOT unlocked for data as Sprint wants you to use their carrier agreements so they can charge you 3 bucks per minute and 1.25 per SMS
BEWARE of AT&T phones, especially the iphone. regardless if you have an international plan or not, your phone WILL roam and your WILL incur
significant charges as iphones passively transmit and receive data as long as there is a GSM signal because they seem to have roaming agreements
with virtually every GSM carrier on the globe.
Rick4girls: I HAVE no special plan. Its a plain old garden variety ordinary MTC SIM card. Same one I have used since 2007.
And I don't pay 25 cents to send a SMS back - because MTC has a free service on their website. So it costs nothing.
And my phone - I have about ten of them (I like gadgets) all bought on ebay at $120 or less (sometimes FAR less) - as long as its an unclocked 800/900/1800/1900 - most of the ones I buy are capable of taking dual SIM cards. So I have a PureTalk SIM I use in America and my MTC from Ukraine in the same phone SOMETIMES (I switch from time to time).
When I do it THAT was - I can use my PureTalk SIM in America - and receive SMSs from Ukraine - anywhere - anytime.
You guys can argue all you want - about whether or not it SHOULD work - all I can tell you is that it does. Just today I sent an SMS via the website to my Poltava girl asking her what time she would like me to call. Seconds later mu Ukraine phone went off - with an SMS from he saying "Call me now!" and I used my landline to do just that!
I have 2 "Chinese iPhones" (one even has wifi and TV) and they hold dual SIM card..
I have 1 SMALL "iPhone" looking thing - it holds dual SIMS.
I have an old blackberry - holds one SIM card.
I have a blackberry looking phone (Chinese) with a tiny keyboard - holds dula SIMS.
I have a Samsung BlackJack - hold one SIM card.
I have s Samsung Galaxy Pocket - holds one SIM card.
I have two simple Versio phones, no camera, 2 SIMS each - battery last forever.
I have an OLD Motorola - my first mobile ever - one SIM.
Thats 10 mobile phones - all of them purchase at one time or another on ebay. All of them UNLOCKED and (supposedly) "special phones". Totally I could handle 16 SIMs and its a good thing - because I have had upt to 4 from Ukraine, one from Moldova and one from Bulgaria at the same time.
But in reality I rarely have more than two charged and working at a time.
ALL of these were purchased as new toys to take to Ukraine - because I like gadgets.
But I don't like using cell phones in America - I have an American SIM as previously mentioned but I almost never use my cell phone in America. THERE its essential. But I don't like to be bothered with it here.
ALL of the above phones ar 800/900/1800/1900 and ALL can get messages from my old basic standard Ukraine MTC card anywhere in America SIM card with no special service whatsoever.

jetmba, im not arguing or disagreeing with you at all. Ive never used MTC or Kyivstar so Im clueless about their services.
Life:) also has web based SMS service as well. Prior to 2007 I used VimpelCom which was called bee-line in Ukraine but they
kept going up in price and Life was offering ridiculously low prices to sign up and that was when a dollar only bought 4UAH.
I still dont know why phone service became the purpose of this thread, lol
This discussion is meaningless to the ones who go once per year or ever and are to tight or broke to buy a $50 phone in Ukraine even
if it means a girl can contact them back home. Most wont make it to the point of having a real girl's number anyway.
The problem with sending an SMS even at 25 cents from your Ukrainian phone in the US is that quickly you will run out of grievna on your phone. Especially if you have an active girl who wants to communicate - and even if you thought to put 200 grievna on before you left Ukraine.
REPLENISHING grievna on your phone is a tricky thing.
MTC has a website that offers to sell minutes for your phone. And the site takes credit cards. But if you try to use an American credit card - even Visa or MasterCard you are told that ONLY a credit card issue by a Ukrainian bank will work.
On the rare occasion when the money on my prepaid Ukrainian phone is running out - I have to send money to someone IN Ukraine along with my phone number and she can use one of the electronic machines to add minutes. Adding 200 grievan is only - BUT you have to paya Western Union fee of something to send that money over.
SO much easier to just conserve the money on your phone and use the FREE service on the website.

That 25 cents per text is on my reg cell phone, “after” I go over my limit!! I’m not sure exactly what my limit is,,, because I only went over it once or twice!
If you have an active girl tell her to send emails. Text should only be for an emergency anyway!
moyarishka: Facebook and VK require you to have internet. Not everybody does. Also, communication is not immediate.
LooneyTune: AGAIN you think everything is about you. I don't CARE what limit you have or how many times you go over it. I was refering to a post from Rick4girl who said it cost about 2 grievna to send an SMS from one Ukrainian phone to another in Ukraine. 2 grievna is about 25 cents. Looney - try and get over yourself, will you?
Jetmba, you can download the VK mobile app to your phone and many girls like Moyarishka have that app(well the ones
who actually work do,lol) on their phone so you
can essentially send messages back and forth for free and its fast as SMS.
Life:) has a credit card interface that works through Privatbank that allows you to use US credit cards.
