Tom,,, I was asked to send flowers on the last trip,,, and I didn’t. She wasn’t even in the country,,,, or so I was told, so I don’t know what good it would have done? On the previous trip,, I’m not sure if I was asked to send, or to give,,, but I did buy them myself,,, with a little help. You already know the who-what and where s of this story.
I don’t think I ever encountered any “phantom” profiles,,,,, I met all but two that I sent flowers to in my early days,,,, and they had people (bodies) to go with the photos. It is a real possibility though, and everyone should be careful not to spend money on a newly found profile.
The woman in that city had a very small online footprint,,, that was the only reason why I gave her more of a chance. She had a profile on one website and an inactive Vk account,,,, she was never online for either of them. The downside of that, is it could be a bogus Vk account planted by the agency,,, and in this case I believe it was.
This girl claimed not to have internet in her building,,,, and since she was never online,,, it seemed to be a true story. She didn’t speak much English,, in fact I never heard one word from her. Something that needs to change in the future.
The lack of personal 1 to 1 communication in the past, has been as much my fault as any of the women‘s. It’s not easy to set a time that’s convenient for both. I remember driving to a hill for important calls,,, very pricey on a cell phone!
Poor cell and internet connections have dogged me for years,,,, I’ve been paying for the best for three years now,,, I’m just not getting the best. I actually plan to take this up with a US senator soon,,, a consumer’s internet bill of rights if you will.
Yes! If you have Skype,,,, use it! The girl does need to make time for a guy,,, otherwise he has nothing!
Lavynat,,, you could be right,,, I’ve been on AOB for years too,,, and I only met one woman from that site. The site functions okay,, their support center is the best I’ve ever dealt with,,, but some facets of it tend to make a person distrust it. They have at least 15 sister sites or clone sites,,, if you are on one,,, you are most likely on all of them.
Making direct contact with a girl was nearly impossible in the past,,, but that has since changed. They were expensive too,,, 5usd per letter, or more for a long letter and extra for a photo. I’m not sure what they charge now.

I have done some "research" now about this "email problem".
I have received the email address from some girls and we have been communicating
that way since then.
It turns out that the agencies try very hard to make the girls communicate only via agency. In some cases their agency has "filtered" my messages, and in other cases
they have told the girl that my email address is not correct.
I received an email address today from a girl, and when we established contact via email she told me that she had never received my email address even though I had written it twice to her...
I live in selok I don't know if one of you ever heard it.
Let. make it simple for you to understand I have to spend about 40 minutes from where I live to where I work. I don't really spend time on internet social. Plus I will disappoint you but my email does not has social. Plus access to internet is not really like on big town. But people live here and are sociable and educated not like in more developped country I agree but I can write with my so called English and you. Understand . Don't associate one case to all . And really here where I live we know each other so no need too much social internet thing. If you have heard from someone for so long that means everything is ok.:)
I didn't read the whole thread (not so interesting to me).
But I can underscore lavynat's message: it is a Big Mistake to make generalizations about the vast populations of the former Soviet countries.
For example, I had a Russian friend (ex-friend, she is now a running dog of the Kremlin) who insisted that any Russian woman who says she doesn't have internet at home is a liar, because all Russians do. Years after she said this, I read that something like 40% of Russia's population still didn't have internet access.
What's even funnier, is that I had to explain to this SAME WOMAN, how to ride on a bus in her city. She had never taken a bus in her life. Probably, many Russians would say that it is impossible that a grown woman (unless she is very wealthy, or home-bound by disability) has never made a bus ride! Generalizations about people usually have many exceptions.
In a more trivial example, a friend accompanied me to a post office in Ukraine where I wanted to buy stamps. She was fascinated by the process, so I explained to her how stamps are placed on an envelope, it is addressed to the recipient and placed in a post box etc. She was about age 30, with a law degree.
I have given other examples before in this forum. When somebody says, "everybody has X" or "nobody does Y" ... well, this may be true MOST of the time. Not always!
@lavynat: Gde nahoditsya Selok? He nashel na kartye.
Selok is at kharlovskaya oblast. For you to understand it is among the small cities around. kharkov which is a big town.
Here are many selok. It is the same as town but very small. It is not an adress but just a location . I am not going to givey address you don't expect. It ).
It's true that Internet am not be available in small town (even the internet at my buddy's house in Germany not available). The girl I met near Zhytomyr used 3G USB to Skype / internet.
But bottom line: if you no able or making an effort for a video chat than your are not available.
Thanks, Kaiser -- my silly mistake, of course it is version of selo. I thought it was a proper noun :)
Russian and Ukrainian have many diminutive and endearing variants of nouns, that are not found in dictionaries.
I don't think that lavynat should be too worried about the secrecy of her location -- I have spent time in a Ukrainian village, and without knowing people who live there, it is quite difficult (and perhaps more than a little dangerous) for an outsider to find anybody in such a place.
durak, it's true that not everybody has internet, but if a girl wants to participate in all this international dating thing she should have internet! Otherwise she doesn't really wants to marry a foreign guy! Girls who really want to find a foreign husband they have accounts to like 10-20 dating sites and they have to be on each site everyday, to look through the new members, to chat with old ones etc.
International dating is like a second unpaid job.
Lavynat, a pochemu ti Selo nazivaesh kakim-to Selkom? :))) Ti tochno s Ukraini? U nas v Ukraine govoryat selo, a ne selok :) mozhet ti imela vvidu poselok? PGT? :)

"Lavynat, but why do you call any village Selok? Are you precisely in Ukraine? In Ukraine, we say Selo and not Selok. Maybe you meant posyolok, as in PGT?"
PGT is a term from Soviet times for a settlement more populous than a rural area, but without enough people to constitute a city.
lonely, i'm not into this dating thing, and i don't want to find a foreign husband, if it'll happend it'll be not because is was looking for him.
I'm just trying to help these guys, and i'm an outgoing gal :) well i don't try to help you, coz you don't need it.
Drinking in Easter Europe is cheaper than buying water...
To does used to city life style, you may find a Selo or PGT a bit culture shock...however, I had a positive experience. People had a humble and simple way of life.
To continue my story about email, I am now corresponding with a couple of women via email.
I have told those who say they are interested in me that I only will continue contact via
email or facebook.
And it shows that they actually have an email address, as well as access to computer.
Most of the remaining part seem to be paid by agencies, since they are only interested in things that cost money for me: making personal videos for me and arranging phone calls via agency. To those I have simply said: Paying for that service: No way !

I know Moya, you’re only in it for the beer! The other guys need your help more anyway.
