The women I met were all very nice and seemed sincerely interested in finding a husband. Do some women in foreign countries have sex for money to feed their children? I have no doubt. But I am certainly in no position to judge them. A mother will do whatever it takes to provide for her children. There were prostitutes in most of the hotels I stayed in, and they worked for the hotel. It almost seemed to be one of the services that the hotel provided for it's guests. I was told that prostitution is more acceptable there. Hell, there's a reason it's called the oldest profession. We have a very skewed, very confused [Jerry Springer vs Jerry Falwell] morality in the USA. It's wrong for us to judge others by our morality. I for one wouldn't be bothered that my wife used to be a prostitute. It has nothing to do with character, morals or what kind of wife or mother she would be. My view exactly, and my past life backs up my words. I was however, in my post about hookers at socials, merely pointing out to Olga, and to all here, that just because its a social, and the women are there in fromnt of you, does Not mean that it is all above board, it just means the women are real flesh and blood, doesnt mean they are looking to get married, or find just one man, they may be there just for the free drinks and a good time. I probably would've chickened out without it. I went to St. Petersburg with 1on1romance.com, an AFA affiliate that was recommended by a friend. They gave me a free phone card and a free Pimsleur language course(beginner) which I HIGHLY recommend. My real mission was to meet the women I had been writing to, not to attend the socials. I wrote about this on another thread. I went to Peru with a friend in January, and it can be very intimidating to go to a foreign country when you don't know the language. Quite frankly, I was afraid to go to Russia alone. There are not many English speakers, and you had best b able to know a couple of dozen words and phrases. Russian is a completly different language. I admit to being shallow, and looks are important to me. The girl that I met that I had been writing to did NOT look like her picture. I left the tour group to visit her in southern Russia. The profile mentioned that she attends a gym, but I can tell you that she hadn't been to a gym since that picture was taken, meaning at least a couple of years. She was very nice though, but it was a difficult 3 days. Back to St Petersburg. Anyway, thank God for the socials. The first social had at least 200 incredible women, and there were less than 20 guys. The group of men were good looking, successful business owners, doctors, airline pilots, retirees, etc. I was easily the poorest of the bunch. We all had our own horror stories about American women. But I digress. The women at the social were the nicest, smartest, prettiest, most sincere women I had ever met. It was impossible for all of the men to meet all of the women there. I remember being on the dance floor near the end of the social and seeing these 2 incredibly gorgeous women (10+) sitting alone at a table with painful, bitter looks on their faces because no men had talked with them. There were simply too many women there to meet. I was busy dating the women from the first 2 socials that I opted out of the third one. I spent 3 days straight with one of the girls but have a couple of reservaions about her that we are trying to work out. I am corresponding with 3 others as well. I plan on returning to St Petersburg in August to get to know the women better and hopefully propose. It was expensive but worth every penny. I highly recommend the experience of going on a tour. Being a seasoned FSU visitor belive us when we say, it is not an easy place to be understood until you get at leats 300 to 350 words under your belt !!! All love is based in some way on looks, not just on personality, and anyone who says they dont care at all about looks is not being totally honest, we ALL do !! Moreover, two other qualities we look for in these FSU ladies is that they are slim, western women are becomming bloaters !! And that FSU women take good care of their looks, with skin care, good cosmetics and hair care, wetern women think near enough is good enough !! I Dont !!! Just a little advice, as a freind, go back in August by all means, and narrow your ladies down to one, but go home and go back a third time before you pop the question, give your self and the lady you choose time to settle with each other first, with no distractions and then go back again and seal the deal. Obviously you can do exactly what you wish, but speaking from personal experience (one failed FSU marriage because we rushed it) I wouldnt ever ask a woman I had not been writing to for at least 6 months, and have been with in reality at least 20 days to marry me. Like you, this forum helps me alot. Without it, I really don't know if I would get as far as I have. I'll be leaving for St.Petersburg myself in about 4 weeks, my first time overseas. I'm going for one girl, though I know of one more that would like to meet me if things don't go as planned. I'm nervous about all this and I still can't ruleout that someone might have to give me a push onto the jet. Tim, I'm sure your rite that I will have to make more than one visit. In a perfect world if things went great is after my visit, she can get a visa- I could go back to fly her back here- then we could have 90 days to live together and she could see if this is what she wants. You're best to write a few to begin with, after some time if you're not seduced by pretty photos you'll realise with time who is genuine and who you can form some kind of connection with. You don't have a ' relationship ' until you actually go and meet, so figure the letter writing as a means of meeting a lady or some when you go, sure you will get a few scammers, who doesn't, but if you use your common sense you'll find plenty of nice ladies also. Once you've actually been there your whole perspective will change if you meet a nice lady, it will make you realise why so many other men are doing it.
