Have had experience with this so thought I'd share.
- Write your letters offline using MS Word.
- Set Language in word doc to be English (United States) as all online translations tools are programmed in American English and won't be able to translate "colour" but will be fine with "color"
- Avoid slang and colloquialism, write like a newsreader on the BBC or ABC but not MTV
- Avoid ambiguous words like "like", did you mean "similar to" or "enjoy"
- Use short sentences and try to keep your poetic side under control.
- Check what language your friend speaks, Moldovan is enjoy Romanian, sorry, similar to Romanian. Ukranian is similar to Russian. Think of it as the difference between the English and Americans, two people seperated by a common language.
- If that sounds obvious check the stated nationality, many Russians live in the Ukraine and Moldova.
- Be realistic about your ability to learn her language, it's just as hard for her to learn yours
- If you speak another European language say so. German and French speakers are no uncommon.
And if all else fails accept your shortcomings and limit your search to girls with English language skills 8-10. Or try the universally accepted method of communicating with Johnny Foreigner, shout loudly and slowly in your own language :)
