Will post a more detailed descripiton of my trip in a few hours. Ditto; I spent 4 days in Kyiv with my my girl and loved it. She is not from Kyiv and watched out for my finaces better than I could ever do. That's pushing it. Now if you spoke Russian or Ukrainian (so you could use the mini buses and you wouldn't get taken advantage of by taxi drivers etc.) and if you had a friend to stay with - I'm guessing that $500 per month would suit you just fine. But for any westerner - or middle-easterner (like an Iraqi) - I would have to say - $500 for a month isn't going to cut it. jetmba. Never negotiate with the taxi driver directly (have your Russian friend do it) and never even speak in the taxi. But while in Latvia reently I had a chance to talk to a taxi driver who told me that such behavior makes it unclear, perhaps, what nationality you are a member of - but they know instantly that you are not Russian. Why? Because a Russian man would not have his lady tell the taxi driver where to take them. He would do that himself. Doesn't sound like you have much of a chance to compete with western men in Ukraine or any other FSU country, mate. It's easy to get by on less than $500. Necessity is the mother of invention! Too much of a blanket statement Toad. What about the Oil-rich, western educated Arab countries? They are not all mad mullahs practicing extreme forms of Islam. I asked a G/F in St.P what she thought of men from other cultures. She had no idea and just saw men as men, with their own individual characteristics. Her lack of prejudice was refreshing. Her naivety was worrying... Children actually do it too. Then there is always the possibility that some things are said not to cause offense, even if not particularly to please. Your travels have been extensive throughout the FSU - so I am amzed that you seem to learn from women exactly what your preconceived notion was anyway. Having found affluence (not necessarilly possessing themselves but just being exposed to it) Russian women are more than just aware that it exists. The small percentage of EXTREMELY affluent people that they know within their own culture are held in EXTREMELY high esteem. They are refered to as "VIPs" they are always talked about as building (or having recently built) new houses (compounds) for themselves and family. They have bodyguards and BMWs (or Hummers or Mercedes). They wear exclusively designer clothes in a style that the less affluent try very hard to emmulate with cheap knock-offs. And the fact is that young girls are much more in awe of these figures than they are of even wealthy westerners. I discovered a pattern. I met about ten women who talked of losing their virginity to a much older (at least twice as old), married, VIP. And they didn't regret it at all. These guys - have the economic as well as social power. They are seen as the movers and the shakers and they can have virtually anything or any woman they want regardless of their own marital status. Many of these girls are VERY materialistic and only regret that there are not more native VIPs to go around. That is why many of them look to the west. (And I for one am happy to satisfy the excess need as much as I can..... :) ) But now I am getting married - probably (never sure of ANYTHING in this situation until it happens.) I leave more opportunity for all of you. In Lugansk, and in this region, an engenier at a plant gets 100-150 grivnas, yes I'm not saying lies, it is about 20-30 $, per month! My friend was working at a plant for 2 months, as he wanted to work according to his speciality - he is an engineer, and he like we say "engineer from God" meaning that he is very good, and he had such a salary. He was promised to be paid 400 grivnas, about 80 $, per month, but if he would be responsible for all the equipment...he denied, as he didn't want to be responsible in the case something happens, as he would be made to pay a big sum! And equipment constantly is stolen. So he left, now he fixes the game machines, you know where you put money in and maybe will be able to win some money, and he gets 1000 grivnas, about 200$, per month, and soon his salary will go up to 1500-2000 grivnas, 300-400$, per month....
