Thanks Bill, that's a pretty reasonable fare. Now I all I have to do is hook up with someone that I can trust. Right? Late, Socalboy.....how about those Trojans.....the football players, not the condoms! LOL
Hi everybody.. I'm completely new this. I noticed socalboy's post about his correspondences with a lady in Cheboksary.. This caught my eye because I'm also exchanging emails with with a lady in that city.
Here's my situation and questions (any advice or insights will be greatly appreciated):
Let me preface the following by mentioning that she initially stated that she understands there are scammers out there and will never ask me for money. After a couple months of exchanging emails every day or two, she hasn't even hinted about sending money.
1. I have mentioned visiting her in Cheboksary but she strongly disagrees with this, stating that one may visit Russia as a tourist but I would be in danger meeting her there because Russian men strongly dislike us foreign men who come there and cause their women to move away to start lives elsewhere. She suggests eventually meeting in another country. She has a job (at a cafe) but wouldn't it be rather difficult for her to obtain a tourist visa, even to visit a European Union country (never mind the USA)?
2. I want to "step up" our correspondence by calling her on the phone but she doesn't have one, and apparently has no ready access to one, either. She doesn't feel this is a possibility.
3. I wanted to mail her a music CD I've burned with some of my favorite music (as a "getting to know me" gesture) but she only has a cassette player. How would one go about mailing a cassette tape to Russia? USPS?
Again, I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts on these things.. Thanks!
Oops.. I apologize. I just realized I should have posted this as a "new topic" instead of a reply. I'm new to the whole "blogging" thing.. Sorry everyone!
I have been in Russia several times now, I live in the US, and have only on one occasion felt uncomfortable. I was with my girl and her daughter at a trainstation in Ekaterinburg, and a drunken soldier was talking with some other guys in a way that was clearly not very nice. But after a few minutes he disappeared, and that was it. Generally speaking, people did not seem to notice me (and I am 6 ft 6 in, so I usually stand out of a crowd)
At the same time my girl also said that it can be dangerous, and she didn't want me to go by myself to the trainstation and pick her up, she insisted on coming to the hotel by taxi.
So, your girl may well be sincere. My current girl also has stated taht there is propaganda against Russian women moving abroad, and I am sure that some Russian men will resent us.
As for getting visas for foreign countries, for the US it will be next to impossible, I understand through a tourist agency it is not so difficult for EU anymore. Countries like Turkey, Cyprus, and Egypt don't require visas for Russians.
I find it very odd that she doesn't have a phone, that one seems like a red flag to me. Everyone there seems to have a phone, a mobile at that, and they are not exactly cheap there either. Ask if she has a friend, and if so suggest to call there at a time that is convenient for both of you.
You can use USPS for mailing stuff to Russia no problem, depending on how quickly you want your stuff to arrive it's not expensive.
Good luck.
Hi Al, I went to Cheboksary in September and found it a pleasant city and find no reason why you should not go there to visit your lady. When I was with my lady she did avoid any possible confrontation with Russian men, particularly if there was a group of them. I did meet one Russian man who tried to shake my hand so hard(in a friendly way), that the blood ran out of it. (luckily I have a vice like grip myself!) Most people have mobile phones and access to a landline telephone should be no problem, however she may be shy, so if this is the case, give her time. I regularly post items to my lady and also parcels, and so far all have made it to their destination. I hope this helps some, and good luck.
I think the lady may be still operating or the same scam by someone else. She is now known as Natalya and is on www.udate.com as Kiska78. (If you want to see her photos - her pic is hot) She emails me everyday long emails. After two weeks tells me she has fallen in love with me. She lives in Cheboksary but on udate she says she lives in USA - a little lie she tells me is of no significance. She gives an address but it looks incomplete. She begs to hear my voice but has no mobile. Her photos show that she has a televison and VCD recorder. A girl without a mobile - good grief!
socalboy, how did this turn out? It so happens that I am currently writing a babe from Cheboksary. She was "burned" by an englishman a couple of years back. Was she blond, with her first name starting with "E" ?
