NOR...I dont even see reason why you must argue to these people! Everybody in the world knows that person who is born in Scandinavia won lottery! Its mean the best life standard, no poor people, clean nature, not so much violence, kids can get normal education in state schools, social security. Scandinavian countries are role models for Baltic states!
I dont think cold climate means something (exept pensioneers and they can move to Spain or Portugal for winter in Europe), North-Europe is much richer than south anyway!

I have not taken offence and your points are very valid. I agree with you. I will be on guard and take care. Somewhere down this road I have to make a decision. It is going to be tough based on my knowledge of her. The problem is that people are often governed by circumstances. When they put me under pressure at work I become a complete asshole. I don't like it but that is what happens. I become short with people and can be rude. Under normal circumstances I am as sweet as sugar. I believe Marina is the same.
Something interesting that just happened to illustrate this. Marina's car just broke down. They wanted $93 to fix it. She went through hell that day and still found time to write to me. So I sent her $100 through western union. She was in total shock that I had helped her!! She was concerned that I could afford the money and very grateful. She earns before deductions $450 per month. One weeks pay was going into this car repair. It was a huge blow. She did not complain though. She did not ask me for the money. She was completely surprised that I helped her and so fast. Totally grateful and gave me another insight into her character.
She said that all the lawyers in the world know that basically talk is cheap. Faith and trust are 2 different things and people gain trust by their actions as time passes. She said that she is so used to everything "falling on her head" that when somebody suddenly helps her without any request or warning it is a shock. She expects nothing from nobody.
As time passes she is trusts me more and more and there is no need for panicky unreasonable outbursts.
Could I be dealing with a nut? Yes of course but there is only one way to find out. Everybody deserves a chance. She doesn't know it but this is hers. The one and only. I will not do as Jmo did, there are too many others out there. For starters I talk to a lovely lady who lives in Staten Island, we are just friends and she is completely ware of Marina and wishes me luck. Russian,, beautiful, has a doctorate, already here, no immigration problems...... There are options and I am fully aware of them.
just one more thing izi. My x said she was governed by her circumstances but that was not true at all. An asshole you may be at work under pressure and i have done the same, but, usualy not to the people I like. I remeber filling in the form to apply for her visa to come here and she started going on about some stupid question and it probably was. She was shouting and carrying on. I told her to settle down as there was nothing I could do about it. I asked her why she was shouting at me. She said she was not, she was just angree, but like I said, I was the only person there. Therefore you are shouting at me. Some of these girls circumstances are bad, but after some experience my advice is to stay away from those girls as there motivations for doing this may not be altogether the right ones, therefore may not lead them to find the right man for them. they may just simply lead them to find a man
Thank you for the nice words. I don't feel I have to argue with anyone, but this is a Forum, and I like to discuss topics of different caracter. I haven't felt offended, so why not keep discussing/arguing? They also know this about scandinavia, and if they don't I think they should ask for their schoolmoney in return dear ;))))
By the way, you are right about what you say about the seniors of Norway, very many, no VERY MANY of them have an extra house/appartment in Spain. (funny why it is called appartment when they are connected, a better name should have been togetherment;))
It has become quite normal actually with an extra house where people live in the winters, since they can cash out their retirement-money each month, all over the world.

ID,
I have a feeling we have been together with the same girl.. LOL
N()R, your homeland is very beautiful indeed and warrants a visit and more, and it's nice you have all that oil at your disposal so you will never be out of gas:) how about taxes? In America, with a little tax planning, people keep most of their income for themselves and only share a small piece with the government. I am very familiar with the tax system in France, Italy, Greece where income taxes are ridiculously high not to mention all the indirect taxes (for example, on your favorite product, ie. gasoline). I think Europeans especially in your neck of the woods pay unnecessarily too much to the government. Just wondering if you give more than half your income to the government, how many people can afford private houses in Spain?
Annika's comment about one place being the best to live and another one being the worst reflects left over soviet type complex. Sweetheart it doesn't matter where you home base is, what matters is how much money you can afford to pleasure yourself. You can live the best life in India or Malaysia (like izi said) or Costa Rica or even in Russia as long as you have enough buying power. On the other hand, you can live in misery in America, Skandinavia, etc. if you don't have IT. One of my Indian business partners told me you can retire like a maharaja in India with only a half a million bucks (anywhere but the capital), have a big house with maid, cook, etc. massage every day, etc. My cousin, an American, works in the oil industry in Libya (not a Norvegian monopoly by the way:). He's an engineer and he and his wife live a luxurious life they would never afford in America, not to mention the free trips back home and their opportunity to travel around the African continent. Smart people make the best out of their buying power, and unless there are strong reasons, they don't go to live in countries where you have to pay 80% of your income to uncle sam.
Well, we have pretty high taxes here, and now I am talking about the indirect taxes. They are too high, and everybody knows it, but no one even raise a finger to do something about it.. Some times I wish the Norwegian people were more like the French. As a people we are just too patient, as long as we manage we don't say anything, but we should actually demonstrate against these taxes. We have one of the highest prices on gasolin in Europe, and that is silly as long as we make about 134300000 USD MORE THAN THE ESTIMATED every week on the oilbusiness alone. An average income in Norway is about 45000 - 50000 USD. When it comes to personal taxes I personally pay about 30% of my income to the government (I am a single guy, if I had a family I would pay less). But then again you have to remember that everything is free in Norway, Schools, doctors, hospitals, elderly homes, elderly care, childrens daycare in kindergarden and at school is subsidized, if you get sick and have to stay home from work the government pay your salary while you are ill (Good for business), and so on. So all together I think it isn't that bad actually. I think most people in Norway can afford to buy a house in Spain these days. What is really unrealistic priced in Norway is everything that has to do with cars and driving.. This has to do with the enviromental issue (So they say), they think by keeping up the prices people will use the car less, and pollution will be reduced.. The reality is that because of this people keep their cars longer, and instead of driving modern cars that don't pollute as much they drive around in pollutionbombs... But when that is said, if you get yourself some specialist in the field I know people that pay 0% taxes.. I personally think it is ok to pay something back for the social benefits we have. But Norway is far from perfect, there are issues and things that could be changed for the better, no doubt about it...
N()R, my mother's family root partially traces back to Norway (born in Minnesota, which consists of people with 90% German or Norwegian background:). My ex's father was also second gen Norwegian (really great guy). So, I highly respect your country. Let me know when you buy that condo in Spain, I'll send you a warming up gift, perhaps a few gallons of high octane gasoline:)
Do you know where in Norway they have their roots?
I have actually been thinking a little about Spain, but I am not sure. I have also been looking a little on the opportunities in the Phillipine islands or Thailand. We'll see, still have some years left till I retire :))
yes, Annica. You are right, there are swedes as well, mostly around the St.Criox area. Does it really matter? Who cares about the Swedes anyway? They lost the olympics because King Carl fell asleep under the hearings.. LOL.. Who got it? Lillehammer!!! Cool.. Thank you Sweden... haha
