Wow, I was expecting to maybe see some "good stories"...
In response to a few pages ago...I met this guy on the airplane from Kiev to Paris. His wife lives in Moscow and he's been married for two years. He's from the US...I asked him why she doesn't live in the US with him...Simply put, she doesn't want to move from Moscow. She's visited him twice and prefers her home city. She was looking for love, not for economic reasons. As soon as he retires, he will join his wife in Moscow. I spoke to numerous women who, if they had a choice, would stay in Ukraine.
And I'm sure there are a lot of great Ukrainian/Russian men. The fact still remains that most men drink there and not to what we would consider "in moderation". My father owned a meat packing plant outside Kiev and they eventually closed due to the fact that it was extremely difficult to get employees with a good work ethic. Most of his male employees were alcoholics either coming to work drunk or missing work because of it. Of course, this was right after the fall of communism but most of these employees were happy with what they have because it's all they've known. Pay them in one month what they used to make in 6-8 months and most of them quit after the first month's salary.
It's a different way of thinking...you don't see much people in the middle of the road down there...I find it extremely adverse. Either you find a person with a lot of determination to succeed whether it be in education or professions and the opposite of people who just don't give a #*$(. Either wealthy or poor. Of course the privatization after independence didn't help that fact! The economy will never flourish there as long as they keep the same policies in effect. I spoke with numerous people about starting some business ventures there and Ukraine is just not conducive to small business unless your outsourcing IT or something else. Not including the fees and taxes associated with those countries. No wonder asset protection is so popular there. Cash Economy + Laxadasical Enforcement = Good Luck With That Folks!
Wow...um...how does this relate to good stories... Well I can personally attest to 2 personal friends of mine. One has been married for six years and the other, fifteen years. I kept joking with them, now you've had your citizenship for how long? Now when are you going to leave this guy? Why would I do that, I married him because I loved him!
Now, I'm sure there are stories from both sides...as in any economy, culture, nationality or country...Economists agree that despite factors, the US still has the #1 economy in the world. Why do 50% of the marriages in the US end in divorce? I have heard far more success stories than negative ones. And I'm sorry, but if your 89 years and Anna Nicole Smith says she's got the hots for you, don't do it!!!
Great input Rhino, much better than the dribble above it (Actually I hope the guy's gone though).
But at 89.... who cares! Probably going to need an overdose of Viagra to do anything anyway!
Rhino,
when the ruble crashed there were many girls that would do anything for a better life, as they were very hard times, but like everywhere times have changed, and life if not so bad anymore,
alot of the girls are not that intrested in leaving there own town, and mine is one of them, she has been to the UK and enjoyed it ,but was not impressed by the weather !,
I also much prefere living in the Ukraine and in the summer the Crimea is a good as anywhere, and who knows sooner or later they might understand the meaning of Service !!!
i completely agree with you.
i am running a company in moldova operating in the consulting branch. this sounds good, but before it goes into running, i had several failures with other businesses. only because of the mentality of local population. alcoholism was only one reason for it. a lack of responsibility, working quality and more matters.
what is absolutely impossible to understand is the fact, that there are a lot of jobless people. if you give them a job, the next day they will feel like a boss and work in a way that you could throw them out the following day. the idea, to be glad of getting a job and work hard to keep this job with good salary is mostly out of their imagination. in this case, women are nearly the same as men.
in summer i had to dismiss a secretary. a single mother with a child. always claiming, that she doesn´t earn enough money to feed her and the child she had to go to summer vacation to the black sea. ok. she returned back to work with a delay of one day. her explanation for the delay was, that the weather on black sea was so nice, that she only informed herself about departure of her bus to moldova on the last day, finding out, that there will be no bus. needless to say, any discussion with her regarding responsibility was a waste of time. they risk to loose their job only to have some fun more.
oh, yes, i also know some examples of long lasting marriages.
