RB The girl I knew from Kerch had the same 05 prefix as your girl but she never incurred charge when I called her.
It's a pity I am not in contact with her anymore, she'd definately be able to answer some questions about this topic.
If your still not 100% it might be worth running a location check on any email headers.
There are recorded messages that come up immediately and sometimes after about 10 rings when I call her. The most common is the number is not in service. It probably means the phone is turned off as opposed to the phone being disconnected because it comes up when she doesn't answer it or her phone is off. WDT, the long distance company that I use once said these recordings come from them as opposed to a phone company in Ukraine.
Yesterday, a new message came up. It said the phone is either turned off or out of range.
I don't know what email programme you use but, as an example, on Yahoo, the latest Yahoo mail, under 'More Actions' one can select 'Full Header' which reveals the track of the message including a number of IP addresses during it's journey to you, it is normally the bottom most of those IP addresses that is the source IP of the message.
Then Google for, something like, "IP address locator" and try a few of the resulting sites, by entering that IP address, to check on the location(s) of it.
IP address locators may only be approximate though.
Look for headertool and copy and paste email headers into the analysis tool.
I did call the girl I knew when she was not in Kerch and got the same result as you mention here….either a recorded message that the phone was switched off or a recording of a song.
Come to think of it; she did say that she would get roaming charges if I called and she answered. However since she was in a town in Russia which was only a few hundred kilometers away (over the strait) I decided it was becoming a bit fishy. The recorded tune was Nelly Furtado.... "Say It Right” If you know the lyric to this then you’ll understand my reasons for dropping her.
The reason I mention this is that I see some parallels with my relationship with her and your relationship with your girl. Meaning: I don’t think you are being convinced about this girl. Maybe you are convincing yourself and this is becoming an effort…but she doesn’t seem to be helping you any.
I never felt my (former) girl was 100% clear with me and took a decision to move on. You’re going to make a decision with your girl yay or nay some time in the future and in the meantime you’re seeing how things pan out in the meantime. IMO this a fair enough policy and I hope it turns out positive.
Something I learned is when you make that decision…stick to it.
The girl I’m talking about here re-opened communication around 8 months after we split and it pained me almost as much again to say…sorry too late.
If I hadn’t done that I honestly think I’d be stuck back in a relationship in which there was just too much subterfuge.
I have not felt this woman isn't 100% clear with me. Perhaps, this passport and work somewhere else does sound fishy, but I have to give her the benefit of the doubt. I would not have thought of this much if not for you guys. Thanks, perhaps I should more. Until I hear from her again, I don't have much to go by.
When I told her I couldn't make it last month, there was a period where I could not get a hold of her easily. But, eventually she again answered her phone regularly until her trip to Kerch.
I use AOL. I have tried to look for a header tool bar like you guys say, but I have not been able to. This is not to test her, because her last e-mail to me was when she was at Kerch. I will try again. I just want to see how it works.
My e-mail address is about 10 years old now. It is AOL. I do have a yahoo account and saw the header icon you guys were talking about. I do not see that icon on AOL. Her e-mail is on AOL.
RB MTS is pretty universal in Ukraine and there are no roaming charges. If she is not answering it is most likely because she doesnt want to talk to you. There could be a few reasons I can think of that she doesnt want to talk to you but high on the agenda is she is with someone she doesnt want to speak english in front of. If you cant get her any time of day I would be concerned as she is probably using a SIM card just to talk to you and one for everyone else in her life which is also quite common here (SIM cards are very cheap). She would not even consider being out of contact if she is travelling away from her family.
Gemini, I tried your website. I got the following:
Error 404
Possibly this page have been erased, renamed or it is temporarily not accessible.
http://www.mts.com.ua/eng/sendsms.php.
We recommend to try the following:
Check the spelling of the address in the address field
Press Back to use another link
I will try again later. It's alright. I will wait until she answers the phone.
Under your name in AOL there is a section Marked details. Click on details(Sent from the Internet (Details)
Internet Address Card Attached
and that will give you the route of the email message including the begining IP address and any other IP addresses used along the way. You will find in the header Received: from [69.147.65.173] this is the IP address your email came from. You can use various IP search engines to find the location. Only problem it may not be 100% accurate if they are using a proxy server.
Nasfan, perhaps I need an update on my AOL version. I thought my version was fairly new. I did see the "details" icon, but clicking it does not reveal an IP address.
Gemini, not wanting anyone to hear her speak English certainly is high on the list of her not picking up the phone. But, she did pick up the phone in the train to Kerch, but she whispered. There have been other times when she picked up the phone in the bus or at work, but the conversation was brief.
RB are you using AOL webmail or are you actually using the program. They are different and you access the IP addresses differently. If your using webmail clicking on details does very little.
I just downloaded the program. Her email address says it came from Kiev. I don't think so. As you all said, it is approximate. Arount the time she sent the e-mail, I did talk to her daughter.
RB try http://www.mts.com.ua. That’s the homepage.
What GD says about her not answering the phone is exactly what I though when I tried to phone her and got no answer.
The fact that I wasn’t even able to leave a message stank to high heaven and I felt she had just basically shut me out for the times that it didn’t suit her.
Well I wasn’t having any of that and there are plenty more fish etc…
When I was able to ask the question finally I got a cock and bull story about roaming charges.
After that I walked.
I’m a great believer in the old saying …If someone shows you the door….leave, close the door quietly and don’t look back.
Like I said, she re-established contact almost a year later. She practically begged me to come to Kiev to meet. She would get the same apartment and we’d do all those things we did before.
But, by that time I was in re-hab from the fsu thing and had my sights on other shores.
In about a year of calling her, this and three other times has she not answered the phone. One was when she was at Kiev, another when she was at Simferopol, and when she went with her friend, a Ukrainian woman who married a Japanese man who was visiting at a hotel for R&R on the other side of Kerch. One was three days, another four and the one in Kiev for five days. Otherwise, she has been very good about answering the phone.
There are times when she is at the movies. There was a couple of times when she was at the movies and answered the phone. Otherwise, she would answer the phone after the movies. Most of the time, she answers the phone when she are with friends, and she would have me talk to her friends. A couple of times, she was at work and she answered anyway.
If she is with a guy, that is surely sneaky to have me pay for her passport. It's been several months since she asked for this passport, so I don't know if a guy will wait that long. Of course it is not believable that she was sent to another country with her limited language, so perhaps she is in Russia. It was one of her proposed destinations. I know her phone doesn't work in Russia since she used her brother in law's phone to talk to me when she was there.
Her work did not do well last winter, if I understood it right. Perhaps, they did well this summer and able to fund such a venture. However, I don't know about that since they had her pay for her passport. They disguised it as a contest on who will get the passport first will go. Whereever she is, I hope she is alright.
