I brought mostly euros this time and stuck some cash on my credit card
its a bit annoying credit cards arnt accepted in most places. They love the
dollar more than the euro as well and you get better deals with it.
Interestingly - the statistics for Moldova show an incidence of AIDS at .2% meaning that Ukraine has a typical Ukrainian is seven time more likely to have it than a similar Moldovan.
I've been there three times and never felt remotely threatened or intimidated. I think youl be fine so long as you use a bit of common sense i.e. avoiding dogly areas at night etc.
Nooga, keep your nose clean, dress like the locals, don't be flashy or splash your cash around, don't draw attention to yourself, avoid the streets at night and don't go anywhere by yourself at night, be alert, if something suspicious in any siutation you become involved in and you become uneasy back out discreetly aand take off anway from it, don't be a hero, keep your shut and you might come back alive and in one piece!

Mafia have no interest in your average western tourist. I've only once had an isse with a credit card. The waiter decided to help himself to a tip of $10 thinking i didn't tip him. Actually when he brought the card back I did leave tip. I went back 2 days later after I checked online and spoke to the manager and told what I thought of his waiter.
And further to our No.1 expert on Ukraine, a.k.a. aussieman41, what a load of tripe.
I've never had a single problem of credit card fraud in Ukraine, despite travelling there 13 times, and quite often it has been necessary to let the card out of my sight bearing in mind that the cashiers office may be in a different part of the establishment, or in a seperate office, and I find it far more polite and enjoyable to remain at the table in the company of friends and/or loved one(s) rather than follow a waitress around a bloody restaurant as if I were a poodle dog :)

I would guard your credit card. I lost $1800 in Russia and the only thing I used it for was cash at the atm but the woman I met there was questionable. I also had a friend who was hit in Ukraine so I would keep close track of your card. I like to use two sources. I take in cash what I think I need and also put that amount in my debit account. Of course keep it in a front pocket until you are able to hide some of it in your apt.
