Another point was that just the greatest wealth of the FSU is still in Moscow. What city has the greatest wealth to be institutionalized in the UK and not likely to change in our lifetime?
I would suggest that the greatest wealth of FSU is in the gas and oil fields of Russia!
Not likely to change in our lifetime? Well I can't see the FSU reforming, a new USSR forming, in my lifetime so, surely, Moscow cannot be considered the greatest wealth of a union of countries that doesn't exist!
He said "the greatest wealth of the FSU". FSU is not a union, but it still has wealth, and Moscow seems to be the greatest. Still, I don't believe that was his point.
The 'F' in 'FSU' refers to 'former' whilst the 'U' refers to 'Union', you are correct that it isn't a union because it is something that no longer exists.
Should we also make comparison with the Roman Empire?
No. Huck Finn was using the FSU as an example and you ran with that example because you want to avoid the point he is making. The point is forum members want to understand your intolerance towards people who have a British passport identifying themselves to be English, Welsh, Irish and so forth.
I'm lost here, Russia, Ukraine etc. are not part of United Kingdom, same as Bermuda and Slovakia etc. are not part of United Kingdom.
So the Russians travel internationally describong themselves as Russians, Ukrainians likewise as Ukrainians, Georgians as Georgians, Moldovians as Moldovians etc. etc. etc. etc. etc ...... Precisely what has this the phuck got to do with British nationals describing themselves as English?
FSU isn't a good example because even if they may hold a Ukrainian passport, nationality etc, their birth nationality may well be Russian but when travelling internationally on a Ukrainian passport they do not stand at passport control declaring themselves to be Russian as many of the dumbass British/English would do!
It may or may not be a good example, but it is an example. Whatever Ray did at passport control we don't know. All he did was start a website saying it was English owned. It may not describe his nationality, but it could describe him in other ways. How does that make him ignorant or a liar?
I'm not going to continue and continue flogging a dead horse however the Englash say their nationality is English because (1) They disrepect the other UK nations, (2) They don't care, and/or (3) they are ignorant.
The Scottish and the Welsh say their nationalities are Scottish and/or Welsh because (1) They are so pissed off with being considered/called English resulting in (2) A hatred of the people of England that is passed down from generation to generation.
Meanwhile many Northern Ireland citizens are proud to say their nationality is British.
This cannot be compared to Soviet occupied countries of the USSR, German occupied countries of WWII, The Roman Empire nor indeed Bermuda or Slovakia and the only persons that can reasonably be expected to understand it are those that have lived through it, with their ears and eyes open, in the different countries of UK.
I have not taken a poll, but I believe English is more recognizable than British because English is a language that is the most used language in the world. I know in some countries like the Philippines, when you talk of someone being English, more often than not, you are thought of as talking about an American because Americans speak English. They know Americans better than the British. They will understand better if you tell them English from England rather than English from Great Britain.
That is just the way I see it. Education is the key here. Calling them ignorant or liars will not fix it. Maybe the opposite is true. I for one did not know much about UK history. I've learned a little here. I can see someone saying "English owned" rather than "British owned" not to piss anyone off, but to make it more recognizable or be able to identify themselves to other English speaking people.
Yes Martin, it could also be because they disrepect the other UK nations. But, I just don't see that if you're trying to run a business.
Thank you Ivor, you completely missed my points and yet completely verified what they were. The last point I will make is that, today, there is no threat in anyone even slightly resembling my avatar as it might have been a generation ago. There was even at that time a negotiable end to that dispute. It had a defined and even achievable end. The threat today literally wears a mask, politically is untouchable and wants everyone arguing your point and their families at room temperature for no other reason than you exist. They will even destroy the ruins of Stonehenge. But it may be to close or obtuse for you to envision.
I still have no idea what you are talking about Huck Finn, you're talking a load of nonsense about a threat in anyone a generation ago, about wearing masks and something about Stonehenge!!!
"...some countries like the Philippines, when you talk of someone being English, more often than not, you are thought of as talking about an American because Americans speak English."
Just understand that some of my ancestors boarded the first boats out of the Isles over 400 years ago and I thank them for their vision. I am from California and am going to Texas in a few days. Our differences in culture and borders are only a running joke, without true bad feeling. Good luck with you and yours.
Rasputin, it's not a matter of being smart. When you speak of being English, many would first think about the English language, not the country they are from.
I tried to make that argument, Huck. He said California is not a country. United countries, United States, what is the point of uniting if there is bad blood? Martin, if peace was to happen, let it start with you.
Ut's not going to be my problem, in a recent survey 33% of adults said they were fed up with these supposed technology advances whereas all they want to do is lock themselves indoors, take the phone off the hook and not be asked for a password, a security question nor have someone trying top sell them something etc. ..... I'm moving to a location where there aren't even any telephones :)
But it is fun here in UK at the moment with the alleged corruption leading a trail all the way to 10 Downing Street ... a newspaper that has been trading for some 150 years is being shut down having lost its advertisers and customers, this newspaper has been hacking mobile phones of a kidnapped/murdered teenage girl, bereaved families of 7/7 (UK equivalent of 9/11) and families of military personnel killed in Iraq/Afganistan, it is alleged that police officers have accepted some $200,000.00 in bribes to provide these informations to the newspaper and the newspaper boss that had been at the head of it resigned only to be given a job by our Prime Minister as his head of media affairs. :)
It's become top news, arrests of senior personnel are happening daily, such action has been long overdue and it's time to sit back and watch the fireworks. :)
