"...I'm not afraid to ask for help when I need it and my gal is quite shy (LOL. here comes that shy thing again) so I need another tutor...so long as you don't charge me! :)
can you help Marsh? (I think you know what I mean)"
dma,
sure, absolutely! I will be gald to help. Obrascchajsy za pomoshch'y v lyboe vremy!
I am currently listening to and learning from Pimsleur Russian 1 (courtesy of SG) and have already done 15 lessons today (6 hours). An excellent and intuitive introduction. The best I've come across to date.
Well it's Romanian for me. I purchased a cd rom on basic conversational Ruanian. Seems easier than Russian as it is the 'normal' alphabet, and has some similarities to French.
I wrote a letter in Romanian. Lu was impressed. I had to tell her that I really know nothing, all I didwas cut and paste some conversation phrases.
She told me she was very proud of me that I wanted to learn Romanain. She also told me not to worry about learning Rumanian, she would teach me everything! She laughs at me and thinks its so cute the way I mispronounce everything. I do hope to suprise her and make some progress before July. (first thing I need to learn though, is itRumanianor Romanian?)
I found it only took me a few days to adjust to the cyrillic alphabet.
Indeed, the appreciation you get in return for trying is unbelievable, appreciation likely not given by a local girl. I will be trying to extend my vocabulary soon allowing for phrase words to be substituted to create a common but original phrases. The time now before visiting should be used as productively as possible reaping the rewards when there than feeling out of your depth.
I am focusing hard on pronunciation than spelling (but do that too) and she loves it when I get (her) going and the support you give each other only creates more confidence to express yourself freely about many things although I do have a specialist subject. :)
Ptichka has been very helpful at giving me some choice phrases, correcting my mistakes and suggestions. Hopefully Marsh will do the same. Anyone fluent in the 'non-standard learning Russian' are more than welcome to send me words/phrases not otherwise listed in a dictionary or available on commercial CDs.
Ordering a meal, asking how much the bill is and counting your change doesn't go very far when heart to heart.
Dma,
I have already offered my help! And I stick to my word! Davaj nachnem pryamo cechas!
When asking how much the bill is you should say "Skolko I vam dolzhen?"
