His landlady tossed him out without any reason. She just wanted the flat back and she did not return his money. For whatever reason he didn't have any cash and his bank cards stopped working. He ended up going to the train station and just staying there till he could figure things out. Being in his situation I would have probably refused to leave the flat without getting my money back. I would have got online and had friends or family members wire me some money. I've always advised against renting a flat immediately upon arrival in a city you don't know. Stay in a good 4* the first few days till you get settled in. I'm currently in Ukraine now and I'm staying in a 4* hotel, a/c, breakfast, wifi. FYI MORON,,,,,,, the “Old” Slavutich is probably the most talked about hotel in Kyiv among forum members,,, and is probably the hotel most members stay at. I just happen to know of at least 4 other members that have stayed there. It has everything you need there,,, several small bars, 2 to 3 restaurants, a bank, 1 to 2 ATMs, a grocery store and money exchange around the corner, many small shops around the corner, and a nice restaurant within walking distance (right in front of Rick’s flat). It’s located close to,, almost on the Dnieper River across from the Mother or Creator of Ukraine Statue. Much more scenic that being downtown. In many ways, I prefer it over the Rus. According to Rick, it is a Soviet era hotel, but I call it “Old” because of how familiar it is to 4um members. I was saying that was the cheapest option available when someone brought up that it was too expensive for them to travel to Ukraine. The Slavutich hotel in Kyiv is a piece of garbage hotel. Garbage stay there. Garbage for garbage. It's one of those old soviet cement blocks they put up. It still looks ugly. Your information about Kyiv LR is no longer relevant. You haven't been in 5 years. I wonder if you'd recognize Ukraine if you ever returned. It's a shithole in the middle of nowhere, you can't get around easily and you are tied to only Hydropark. My friend stayed there 4-5 years ago and that is how he described it, he was too cheap to spend any more money for hotel room. COST was most important to him. For anyone to stay there it has to be that $22 pricetag. Nothing beats having a short 5 minute walk to Khreschatyk at any point during day or night. While your looking out your window from a distance at Rodina-Mat, I am climbing it!!!! )))) Personally, I don't stay at hotels. I like the option in an apt of cooking my meals or having a Ukrainian cook(***) make something for me. I call it a walk and talk to get to know the girl better before committing to spending on her in a restaurant or café. I think it's reasonable. What if she's butt ugly? What if she doesn't really match her picture? Do I have to spend 1-2 hours sitting and talking with her when the result is going to be the same - I'm not interested. Any girl that demands immediately to go to some expensive place that's a red flag for me. Sure, I recommend doing a walk about. You'll see something of her true character. If she gets all fidgety and is uncomfortable with situations that don't involve spending your money, you know what she's all about. Plus, I go there during winter, so I’m not walking that far anyway. 22USD rooms? They show photos of the different rooms, and I’ve chosen the 500 to 600Uah once, the 1,000Uah suite once, and a midsized room with wi fi for about 800 Uah once. I’ve had no issues with the quality of the rooms,, if I ever did, I’d go back down and ask for a better one. TomZ-TuntZ Sharing an idea or asking is not dictating! It was NOT our first meeting!! I’ve had women try to dictate the terms of the first meeting, I don’t let them. I only let an agency plan a trip once,,, because it was in Russia and they took care of the airfare, visa and shuttle. With the exception of a bus load(s) of German sex tourists, I’ve had a near empty hotel. Maybe I had their better rooms? Besides the size of the room,,, whether it has just a shower or a tub with a shower seems to affect the price too. I never planned a trip to meet someone in Kyiv,,, so it is only to wait out my time till departure. My trips have been after the Russian holidays and before Valentine’s Day. I go with what I know! I’ve been to the hotel, Tom has not! Should I forget my experience with the hotel because of someone who hasn’t been there says so?? Is everyone tripping on a bad batch of acid?? I don’t go to Ukraine for the furniture, and I didn’t see anything bad with the photos in Tom’s link!! I never said it was a fancy hotel, I said it was a simple hotel at a good price. I think I can explain about the furniture too. The house that I grew up in, has Yellow Birch floors, and all of the closets, cupboards and doors are all light in color,,, no stain. In fact, I seem to remember my parents talk about bleaching them, to even out the color. Even the original furniture was natural color, that was the style for a short time in the mid to late 50’s. All of the furniture has been replaced several times,,, but everything built in still remains. The house that I live in is the family homestead, built in the late 1800’s. Remodeled completely twice through out the years, and right before I moved in. Most of the wood work is dark, mostly Ash trim. Some of the furniture in this house came to town by wooden schooner. The kitchen was remodeled after my parent’s house was built,,,, with the same light color woodwork. Do I have any plans to rip out the cupboards or restain them??? Nooooope! I had known that something was off for months,,, I made the trip to be sure. I don't go on the blind. I jump on a flight, cause I have solid proof that the lady is not a ghost. I imply to meet me in the airport. This is the 50/50 approach, either both of us will accept or cut the losses. Is would not be necessarily for her to accompany me on the returning ride to the airport. Is best because of the long goodbyes could turn into a missing flight. Trust me on that......For a second time around at her country, I don't request for meeting at the airport ( she can't wait to see again) because it will be an inconvenience. I will work my way back to her on taxi ride ( with her I will save using public transport, but for me, the cost out weights the benefits) since I had been there before. Have you forgot that it was her suggestion to travel to Kyiv?? I had told her, that I didn’t want to travel that far after my long flight,,, then she suggested coming to Kyiv herself. I thought, it could be her way of testing me on my reasons for wanting to stay overnight in Kyiv,,, because let’s face it, most guys go there for the hookers. Letting her show up at the airport, and stay in the same hotel should have been proof positive that I wasn’t one of those sex tourists. After I said it was okay for her to come,,, and after I said that I would pick up the tab,, all she (or whoever was writing) did was back paddle. A trip to Kyiv would have been easy money for a scammer. I had to travel to her town the next day. The 1st night, she was too busy with work? I didn’t really mind. The second night,,,, still too busy with work? Her place of work, is literally, a snowball’s throw from my hotel! I’m now pissed. The interp said I should write her a letter, to let her know that I am interested. I said,,, No,, she knows I’m here! Would I travel this far if I’m not interested?? 3rd night,,,,,, she left with another man the day before I arrived,,,,, would you like to meet with another girl. Errrr! I can’t write what I said then,, I might have thrown a chair across the room too. The interp was on the phone btw. This girl was not a ghost or phantom, we met the year before. For me to make a second trip to a girl, I need to know that I am not just a name on a list. During the summer before, I started asking her about the other letters that she was receiving ? Her answer was; “I have no other correspondence as serious as ours‘”! To me, that translates into, she has other correspondences. I asked her to leave the agency or to at least turn her profile off,,,, like I had done. Nope! Correspondence over! Weeks later, I get birthday wishes and apologies from her. She missed me and wanted to continue the correspondence. Sounds normal,,, but the kicker, is all of the promised kisses,,,, and how she wanted our next meeting to be like. She was not one for pillow talk before. All of this talk, from a woman that shouldn’t even be kissed! During my time in her hometown, I tricked the interp into spilling the beans on the girl,,, she did indeed have an STD. I sometimes wonder if she didn’t have an outbreak in the days leading up to my arrival?? But what does it matter,,, every word from her was a lie.
