Pack toilet paper Ensata!! Especially if you are an American - and used to doing things the way that we Americans do things.
The girl I was with seemed AMAZED at how much toilet paper I used. I didn't think I used much at all.
Also - since you brought up the subject delicate subject - I will elaberate. I don't know what customs are in the rest of the world. My only journeys outside the US of A previously have been to Canada (which really doesn't count). So maybe this will not seem strange to you Western Europeans at all. But one morning my girl asked me why she had found toilet tissue in the toilet. (C'mon guys it was a piece I used for my nose). I told her that was where toilet paper WENT when one had used it.
She told me that in Eastern Europe it is politely folded and put (after "personal cleansing", in the absence of a bidet) in the covered wastebasket next to the toilet. She told me that it is never actually put in the toilet as that will cause plumbing problems later.
I had never heard of such things and only know that if the ammount of toilet tissue a typical American uses is to be tossed into a covered bin next to the toilet - that bin had better be a covered 55 gallon industrial drum.
Are we Americans the only people in the world to use such techinques during our waste removal sessions (its hard to come up with terms to write this politely). Or is she full of...stuff.
In the UK only "Care in the community" people have those mate ;o))
And fully spammed up hair does with a slick centre parting too :o))
"When I was a kid we couldn't afford a duvet, so Gran hung a pillow case next to the toilet and we used that :o)"
We were so poor in winter we used to sit round a candle, all 5 of us, and if it got really really cold Dad would light it" ;o)
As regards taking enough, I usually go and buy about 30 pairs of socks before I go, that way they are all clean and fresh, and I have more than enough to last 10 days to 2 weeks. They cost about $3 a pair here so no biggy and much less agro than washing them in a bidet ;o)

FSU toilet paper has been renamed John Wayne paper.
Its rough, tough and doesn't take shit off anyone !!" ;o))

"My only journeys outside the US of A previously have been to Canada (which really doesn't count)." Nope that doesn't count !! Going to USA Junior is a day trip mate :o))
Actually that reminds me !! Has anyone seen Tony lately Eh !! ?
Your lady was absolutely right about not putting paper down the pan ! The sewerage system is useless and cannot cope with it !!
In Greece everyone arriving for the UK is warned not to put paper down the pan, and to use the baskets instead, and before anyone complains about it the reps usually say:
"Before anyone thinks about complaining about this issue, please know that it was Britain who laid the sewrage system !!" :o)
But in the UK we use heaps of the stuff and it flushes usually without any problems, so no Jet, you are not the only country that goes therough several forrests per day solely for this purpose ;o))
You only have to look at our road, rail, and almost any system in the UK, all over crowded, over stretched and inadequate, no-one here ever seems to think of plan for expansion in the future !!
You don't need to take paper with you !! Many shops there sell the same stuff you can buy in the US, but its expensive, so the locals stick to their recycled newspaper looking crinkled stuff :o) Kids in schools here would love to get a few lorry loads of it !! It would make excellent paper mache :o))
Well I have experience with the toilet paper in the trash can routine from time spent in Mexico. I think I would rather break the bidet cherry. Any tips on the proper use and care of bidet use?
Backing up a bit...Most of the apartments we are looking at on-line come with wachine machinery, cable TV (Ha!) and air conditioning. Am I missing something? Why are people concerned about having clean clothes?
My pretty lady said she can't wait to clean and iron my clothes(GO figure), and cook some healthy food for me.(help me) ;-) I told her that most of my clothes (office work clothes) are cleaned and pressed at the corner cleaners. It drives her crazy that I pay someone to do this. Ok...I hate ironing..I admit it!
jet, uk is like america regarding toilet paper, however, in Greece, turkey, france and spain, they have signs not to flush paper down the loo, different plumbing I guess.
Jet I am of to chisinau, 3 weeks today, I am going without a visa, I believe I can obtain one at the airport and then take my hotyel registration to police, and advioce would be most welcome
Yes Tradman - assuming that you are American, you can get a visa at the airport in Chisinau after your arrival. In fact I stood in line waiting for my passport to be examined right next to those who were obtaining visas. Seems that they were done and in line with me before I even made it to the front myself.
Considering the hassel and expense that I went through to get my visa - I wish that I had done it that way myself.
Remember (of course) to bring all the required supporting documents.
Tim - don't let my experiences sour you. Perhaps it was just the girl I was with. Of course, I hope that you have found the one-and-only that you seek, and will have no NEED to visit Moldova for that reason.
Regarding my own situation, I believe it best to never say never. It is fairly low on my list of things I might want to do again in my life (right next to "breaking my ankle" and "putting my finger into a live light socket") but I can never say for sure.
Remember - we use 110 volt current on this side of the pond, which is only likely to stun you and knock you on your backside. (We don't use that 220 volt stuff which is more likely to kill you).
Jet, I am not American, but I read uk citizens are the same, get visa at airport, go to hotel, pick up registration form and report to police, is this correct?
Dont worry Jet, it has nothing to do with your experiences mate :o)) You said it yourself, I have Natash`, I dont need to go trim hunting in Moldova is what I am getting at :o))
220 is justa bigger buzz than 110 mate, its 415 that is the killer :o)) You dont hook yourself up to that more than once as a rule :o))
Trad, there are often different priviledges for the USA, I guess the powers that be in some FSU countries think thats where the only money inthe world is to be had from ;o))) Best check with the Embassys mate, the UK one in Moldova, NOT the Moldova one here, you are likely to get more truth from our one there ;o))
