Our taxi driver took us to River Palace, he did not speak enough English and said it was a dance place. We were sitting there in total amazement as to how beautiful all the women were. I was not into dancing so just sat back and watched. I observed the vibe for 2 hours and something seemed strange as not many guys dancing, then I notice guys approaching women and putting their arms immediately around them and so forth. The guy next to us told us they were all for sale. I was shocked! I became skeptical. What are the legitimate dance clubs your refer to? Most Taxi drivers should know about it. There are several more of these "barges" along the River. Address is Naberezhne shosse, Metro Most Tel 490-66-95. Bar, Casino, Night Club. I mean it was a nice classy place that was packed at Midnight on a Tuesday evening too. My partner and I just did not expect to be in a "Pay-for-Play" club. We thought "normal" women would be there. I would like to be completely wrong about this as the place was filled with 7-9's, and quite a few 10's as well. The women were fine. I talked briefly with one english speaking hostess/front desk ladies there that liked me and begged me to return the next night, but I didn't. It sure would be nice if any of you western guys that are living in Kiev or have lived there could shed the light on this topic (Do non-working girls go out to dance at clubs?, if so name a few). They will take you the scenic expensive route once they know you are a foreigner. I must admit i have not heard of this river palace nightclub either, i am returning to kiev early December,so if it exists i will check it out. The fare from Borispol to Kiev should be $30-50 dollars. When we arrived at our hotel, we were had an excellent experience with a driver who now is a friend. I will gladly pay him for his help next trip, He was so grateful since we treated and tipped him well. He actually went with us like a tour guide to the open air Ukraine museum, aircraft museum, and even to the grocery stores to help read the labels. Way beyond the call of duty. We befriended the doorman too. The restaurant staff was exception. Customer service here in LA has gotten so bad- it is way out of line with what we experienced, it was mind blowing how nice people in the Ukraine treated us. Our driver was limited but effective in English for the most part. We had like 4 other drivers- we just did the normal thing of negotiating the fee up front. They are abit crazy drivers though since the traffic in Kiev can be heavy, they cannot go too fast. All in all, we got ripped off alot more in Germany! 9davo: I did not want to use those labels or terms, but you get the idea. I cannot confirm this personally as to their actual status. The other thing I forgot to mention about the RP was that at the downstairs bar, restaurant the food was good too. Had a live band playing Classic Rock. Many girls gathered there until the dance area became crowded, we were surrounding by like 8 beauties who just sat down next to us- unlike here where mingling is not as comfortable. Since I don't know any Russian, I didn't get into any conversations- just alot of smiles- but did not know what they meant really as a sales pitch or genuine interest in looking at foreigner. There were maybe 5-10 foreigners there and it was packed. It seems to me that at the low salaries normal women make, none can afford to go to these places. Cover was 60 hyrvnias $12.00, the average salary is $150-300/mo. Kiev is okay but too big. Liked the small town feel of Odessa...and Nikolaev. I've was with the 2 women I've been with so long because they would not leave me and I am a gentleman (even with the remote lock on the car...I open car doors manually for GF most of the time, so plenty of practice, ha.) kiwinorth Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 11/3/2007 5:38:43 AM   people i met mentioned possibility of such places when we were trying different clubs to have drink in Kiev. 50 hva seemed to be the door thing at clubs in the late hours unless they just thought we where new tourist on block, we were actually. was with Russian speakers from Poland and Serbia, even number male and female so i don't know! it was mentioned a few times about these places when we where looking for somewhere to go. thinking now we should have cheeked them out. at time i didn't realise they were a actually dance type club. all other places were dead as, and expected 50 hva, they always let one of us in to have quick look. had to wonder what there game was with such high door prices, if it was the norm for their own lot. found some great bars, but later on the clubs, they were crap really so yeah now i wish i had checked these places out........but the polish dude i was with had to do runner from police after been arrested because of no passport on him, 5 coppers wanted to go to his apartment to find and see it, he said no. i got though combination door to my apartment before they got to me, not knowing of the bullshit what was happening. the female there the cops searched her bag to find her passport. women have all there worldly goods there so she was sweet. they told her to go away after this, but her "friend" or bit of alright she said. then she clicked she heard a zipper, her purse. she screams wheres my forking money, my fooorken money, cops freak. it appears behind coppers over Kiev square. this is when Mr Poland did a runner without cops noticing. i think they were bit afraid of this western women. i was making a salami sandwich through this, female comes in says shes lost her "friend". very disheartened she was. that midday i was having a beer and feed at cafe on that cobbled road with tourist bits for sale and Mr Poland walks in with a bottle wine under one arm and in the other "bit of now i know where he ran to" now it fits together, there was something wrong about her manner at the time. was a good night. It will probably be operated by the ukraine mafia, i have heard about the pimping ukraine mafia on a previous visit and their control of some casinos and some night clubs. Some innocent tourist may go in to one of these nightclubs and end up paying 80 dollars or something for the price of 2 drinks - get into an arguement about the price, then the big thugs in suits in the back office come out and drag the innocent from the night club beat him up or something worse. We had no intentions of seeking to pay-to-play, just a normal singles spot. You might just check it out sometime if you are there for an extended trip. The mafia is likely everywhere, so not just these spots and they are here in the U.S. too, along with Rich drug dealers. The drinks were not expensive- like a Strip club referred to as a "Clip joint". Everyone that worked at RP was nice and friendly too. Their were some black suits around, but that is not just at this place.
