Martin, my description of term 'english' was in all lower case letters, which I was talking engish language that I use and know. I understood very well what Jack meant. Did you?? I didn't use word 'English', which I would have been talking about people from England, sorry if you miss took that, so was I the person you claimed to be informing wrongly??? If Jack is English, why did he use an "American' term.
By the way Martin, in my dictionary 'dive', as used in Jack's statement was really a noun, decribing what Archangel was...." it is a dive", I am not an english teacher but sounds to me to be a noun. And under 3. Slang. A disreputable or run-down bar or nightclub. Have a nice day
beemer,
By my interpretation to use the capital letter, correctly, when saying 'English', 'American', 'Australian' whatever, is, to me, a sign of respect to that language and/or country however that wasn't what the subject was about.
An FSU ladfy had question, to the effect, how can one 'dive' in Archangelsk and your response only served to confuse the situation, I could just imagine her with the English dictionary saying 'what the hell' :)
'Slang. A disreputable or run-down bar or nightclub.'
But wasn't Jack referring to an entire town/city thus the use of such a noun being innapropriate?
Jack English? No such nationality, perhaps he's been watching too many Hollywood movies. :)
Jack .I never thought about that place Arkhangelsk and it does not look the most convenient place to reach.Which airport do you fly to get there? St petersburg or Moscow.
