Just had to comment here - when in Karkov I went to what is billed as the largest open air market in Europe. ANd I was amazed by the number of Asian (presumably Chinese) people who were running the shops. It seemed as if perhaps 1/3 of the shops were run by Asians.
It well known that cheap Chinese clothes, and bags, and products of all kinds are sold in these markets - but I have never seen so many Chinese people doing the actual selling.
We know that economic opportunity promotes the migration of Mexicans into the US. They come because the US is supposedly a land of opportunity where natives are not willing to do menial jobs.
Fairly surprising then that Chinese people see Ukraine as the land of opportunity and as the place to go to make maoney.
This is the first account of this many Asians in Ukraine I have read.
It's not just Ukraine, Jetmba. Walmart is full of things made from China. Many of the things sold in the thousands of 99 cents stores are also from China. All over the US, the all you can eat Seafood Buffets are Chinese. They must have good suppliers because the crab legs alone are worth the $10-$12 they charge, and they have dozens of other entrees. I am sure there are China towns all over the world. If I wanted to buy luggage or a pair of shoes. I would go to China Town. I can get a good pair of shoes or luggage there for $20-$30 each or a pair.
I am not an economist. I don't know where this is going other than the US borrowing money from China to finance their debts. I remember as a kid, many things were made in Japan. The Japanese turned to making cars and not much else.
