Odessa would be nice, but I think it is a lot more expensive to live downtown. Kharkov and Kiev have a much more eclectic ballroom dance scene. They are not near the sea and are farther north. Problem is that apartments within 5km of center can easily run up to 100k for 2 room 50 s.m. I have found distressed HUGE unfinished houses outside the city in the range of 60-80k on the busline that are upwards from 200s.m. in places like Fontanka which are upscale areas but the cost to finish can be as much as 50k or more but still 150k for a 200+ s.m. in that area is still half price of finished houses for sale is still a great investment. problem is most expats want to be near center. btb754, if you dont mind it taking 20 minutes to get to center of Odesa, you can have a nice luxury property with a wall around it, often with a sea view for less than 150k. the girls will be very impressed. there are dozens to be had. If I can convince my girlfriend that this is a better option then im gonna buy one instead of apartment in center. I found one which is 450 s.m. pool in basement, 2 car garage and wall around property is finished already. And even more often, I wonder if you are the biggest fool here,,,, needing to buy your girlfriends just to keep up a reputation. I am told it is the best nightclub in Nikolaev and I can walk from my apartment. Every night at Storm is fun. Last night was memorable. I'm out on the floor and all of a sudden a middle linebacker (American football position denoting a large, muscular individual) type guy has his arm around me and is shouting in my ear. Turns out he is a soldier just back from the fighting at the Donetsk airport. He wants to drink with me, take a picture with me and meet the girls I am with. He is pretty drunk. So I work on keeping him on the dance floor so he can sober up a little while he keeps trying to go grab other people's drinks. I'm buying him cherry juice and more or less keeping him under control. Normally the bouncers toss guys this drunk. However, he is a soldier. A big one. And I am generally keeping him on the dance floor and out of trouble. So he was allowed to stay. One of the girls I was with was stunning. I'm not sure about labor costs in Odessa. In Nikolaev, wage rates break my heart. I really like walking to Storm, but with a driver, it would be a moot point. I have one night in Kiev. What is a good nightclub near a nice inexpensive hotel? My flight is at one in the afternoon, so I can stay out late. In the hotel there is Cocktail Bar "111" which is supposed to be good. Just to set your budget, $80 transfers to from airport for the 1 night. Why don't you stay at another AirBNB? Sure you can get one in center for $25. Nightclubs?? Can be very expensive to get in.... plus drinks. I like the Arena area. There is Rus and Ibis nearby...$50 OR Kiev left bank much much cheaper..$20!!!! Dancing??? My fav is Carribean Club off Tarasa Shevchenko. " I meant local prices rather than international prices ($180/night). AirBnB usually has a multinight minimum. Check-in is a little complicated because there is no front desk etc. Better for longer stays. "I thought you were going to stay for awhile!" It will be 30 days instead of 16. I just decided to hang out in Nikolaev for the rest of the time. Brain dead easy. I gave you rates for inexpensive hotels.....you usually get what you pay for..... Some apts on Airbnb are 1 night minimum but you are right most have 3+ nights. I see now why you ask for hotel, yes less complicated but..........for one night in Kiev for first time IS complicated itself. I have finally met the dance partner of my dreams. Likes to dance with me. Stays with me on the floor. Did belly dance for years and uses those moves to great effect on the disco floor. Tries new moves with me. Has fun. Sexy as hell. She admitted this was a once in a lifetime experience for her. I recall guys complaining about girls who wanted to meet at a nice restaurant or to drink champagne or whatever. Well I am a not so attractive older American. If a beautiful girl wants to hang with me for an evening, I will certainly show her a good time. Tonight there was a pole/strip dance show about. Now I have a background in physics. I have clearly not stayed current. I have no idea how that girl performed some of her moves. We bowled a round. He was proud he exchanged all of his dollars on arrival. Got 17 something. Go figure.
