Good now lets grab a pint and get on with our lives... lol T. ben112 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 6/15/2004 10:21:51 PM   TRADMAN--In defense of those crying, self examing nancies who came back from Viet Nam--------The average age of a soldier in World War 2 was 26( a full grow man with his phyche fully developed)--In Korea the average age was 23( again a full grown man)----In Viet Nam average age was 18 years 6 months.( no one in their right mind will honestly say than an 18 yo is a total mentally developed man)---There was PTSD suffered by soldiers from ALL war and ALL ages. Don't even forget that we were fighting a war we could of WON HANDILY if not for the POLITICANS. Let them send you to war and tell you you can shoot the enemy on one side of the road and not on the other side, even if he's shooting at you. Not to mention that people were trying to SPIT on you when you came home and were callin you BABY KILLERS and worse. It's only been recently that the vets from NAM have got their acknowledgement. The main reason you hear or heard so much about the Vets having problems, was that so many of them were self destructing that the shrinks saw a trend that they termed to be PTSD. Once they realized what PTST was (rape victems have it too) they realized soldiers from every war came home with it to. There just wasn't any treatment for it in those days and the ONLY way they have to treat it today is by TALKING ABOUT IT. NO medicine works for it. The vast majority of vets from Nam went on to deal with their life successfully. But their are others who it almost destroyed, not due to their own making. Have I got PTSD? No I don't. But I understand why some of my fellow vets do. And again the media has played it for all it was worth. But not untill those vets got up and said out LOUD; theirs something wrong with us and we need HELP! The government didn't listen to the vet from the GULF war. Said they were whinners also. But they have now admitted Gulf War Syndrone exists. They were exposed to nerve gas. And if you don't think that a ton of our boys from Iraq will come home crying nancies as you put it you are very wrong. It's our second gorrila style war and it takes more out of a person when you don't have defined enemies and targets. Soldiers in WW1 and WW2 suffered too. The term 'shell shock' is much older than the Vietnam war. Many of the US soldiers in Vietnam were very young, drafted into the army (or 'dragged'), and ill prepared. I do not know about the "...could of WON HANDILY ..." bit, but the politicians *did* interfere. Vietnam has recently had a ceremony in remembrance of a battle where the French Foreign Legion lost 2000, and the Vietnamese lost 20000. An enemy that was prepared for those loses was hard for the French to fight. But, TRADMAN, while I do not know what people in France said to the Foreign Legion when they came home, I have not heard anybody suggest that they were not good soldiers. (You could take a trip across the channel, tradman, and suggest in a bistro that the Foreign Legion behaved as 'nancies' when they lost at Dien Bien Phu. See what happens...) But I did. So the (LAST) thing I have to say about this subjest is. The war shouldn't lasted more than 2 years at tops. Even in the limited war we were forced to fight we still had a 14 to one kill ratio. North Viet nam should of been carpet bombed from the first second. Just like we did in Germany for the most part. It's hard to supply fresh troops when their dead or your whole info structure is gone. The viets only agreed to peace, after we bombed the hell out of hanoi. And it doesn't make a flip to the vets why they were there. The fact was that they were and we were not allowed to fit to win. And I have seen someone come into a bar here in Us and say the vets were a crying bunch of pansies. For real, the man was beated to death! But that was then and this is now and it sort of scares me that we agreed on anything. LOL Are you seriously looking for a woman or just getting off trying to debate or joist with the people here. War: Wars have changed. You are not allowed to kill civilians any more. And the 'soldiers' do not wear uniforms. IQ is a 'woolly' subject - mainly based on having the same 'mindset' and cultural background as the tester. IQ is the ability to do IQ-tests - not much more. After a quiet beer (I shall not tell whether it was hot or cold, strong or weak - this is not the time to be side-tracked!): I do not always agree with you 'Dax' but I respect your intelligence. Over the last few years I have regularly been involved with respect to "covering all the bases" and "dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's" in some computer projects. It's extremely tedious and it makes you both grumpy and cynical if you are not careful. It's not the best preparation for lateral thinking in the 'real world', but it is better than nothing... Here is the hypothetical scenario: Any sufficiently determined computer hacker could find his way from my 'handle' and my postings here to my profile with my real name and picture. Above are several serious libellous statements from you as well as several serious violent threats apparently endorsed by you. (it seemed harmless at first, but after another read-through I think the joke has gone too far). You do not only live in the 'land of the free' (as you say), the same 'land' is also known for its sharp lawyers and its litigation cases. And, suppose my next vacation or my next work contract brings me within proximity of one of the people who have made some violent threats, apparently endorsed by you. And suppose I have an 'accident' (fatal or otherwise). My family - my extended family from ex-wife plus kids, parents, brothers and sisters, to cousins, would like to help me seek 'justice' and get financial compensation. (My closest family would of course have a strong economic interest in the matter.) Let's hope I do not have any accidents.
