Last night in Nikolaev and I connect with a wonderful 41 year old lady. This is the lady I would have written from the start if my original goal had been to come here to find a wife. After all of the craziness of the fist three weeks, I connected with her on VK and she was receptive to meeting.
We met at Shambala near the river. Another fantastic restaurant with few customers. She is one lady whose profile says she does not drink who appears to actually not drink. Some of those non-drinking ladies consume a lot of whiskey. I could not even get her to take a desert wine. She had met a couple of other foreigners without much success. We had great success communicating with the technology. I begged her to take a taxi home.
She does not dance. "I cannot sing and dance while our soldiers are killed every day." I told the story of my dad going dancing in New York City the day before he embarked for the European War. She is OK with my dancing. Especially since I help the occasional drunk soldier.
I ended up here. A barge on the left bank. Large and nice with restaurant. I just enjoyed the Bakkara salad. It comes with three shrimp in a cocktail glass. A very interesting sweet savory sauce. Everywhere I go, Ukrainian cooking pleasantly surprises.

Disco downstairs. I'll probably check it out after a nap. Last night I noticed my legs getting a little rubbery. Sucks to be old and fat.
Taxi from Nikolaev to Kiev was 3000 UAH plus 1000 to take the girls home on the deadhead leg. I gave the driver another 400 for tip and to cover a flat we had. I know we don't really tip here in Ukraine. I don't care.
I had a lot of volunteers to go to Kiev with me. There is a cultural nuance I am missing. Or maybe my friends worry about my general klutziness.
After some of the stories I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the roads. You should see I-76 in Colorado near the Nebraska state line. It gets nasty during/after winter. The one difference is Ukraine does not keep up with the potholes so well.
With the difference in the bank and street exchange rates approaching 20%, it is increasingly hard to price things in dollars. Next time I will bring more cash rather than relying on my card.
Reflections:
I think many of us do not realize how little some of these girls have. The agency dresses them in nice cloths and takes the glamour pictures.
Then they meet you for a date in borrowed cloths. When I set up something in the evening that is spontaneous, she shows up in the same outfit she wore during the day yesterday and today. The only difference is the top shows a lot more breast.
So I take her shopping for some dancing clothes. She picked a basic outfit that looked great and could also serve in an office job. I wanted her to have jeans, some nice under wear. She asked me to buy her a bag and evening boots. Is she a conniving Ukrainian girl or is she a desperately poor girl who became like a kid when I took her shopping?
Dancing last night was at Caprica. Storm may be the best club, but Caprica has the better venue. The girls say Wednesday nght at Storm is beer party night and the place will be filled with drunk "boys".
Well they must have been at Storm because there were almost no males in Caprica. My young friend looked stunning in her new outfit and I was on a dance floor with a bunch of women and this one stoner dude who wanders around staring at women's breasts.
After 5 nights of dancing in 6 days, I am feeling all of 60, so I actually took some long breaks and we left after a couple of hours of dancing.
"btb - you are blowing your life's wad trying to feel young again? Take it easy old chap. "
No. It is a tax bracket thing. Remember, I am spending $500/week at Arthur Murray in the states in a desperate attempt to not do the personal trainer thing. And, if my wife's lawyer gets her to reject the financial settlement, then my soon to be ex-wife will pay for half of the trip.
I will do an accounting and share it with the forum when I get back. You will see all of my naivety. Right now, I have a bunch more in the bank than when I left (vacation pay). But I have not tallied the credit card bills. Before I left, I put a Ukrainian spending cap on my cards, so I am in budget by definition. Much closer to the cap than I expected, but I extended for two weeks. I will definitely be cash flow negative for this period. Not by a lot. But since I have burned most of my vacation, I will have plenty of time to recover.
Now, when I retire and move to Nokolaev, I will need a different spending profile.

Ive discovered it is more like a kid. We rescued a girl in early December and 3 more later in the month. This first girl, Emma, is 17 and had never been to
McDonalds, never been to the mall and had only been in a restaurant of any kind twice in her life. The 5 days she stayed with us until we got her into a home
was probably the best 5 days of her life. new clothes, eating out or teaching her basic cooking were all first or second time experiences.
regarding clothing, Ive noticed over the years that even the more wealthy people still wear the same 2 or 3 outfits all the time. Very few people have a wardrobe similar to Americans in diversity and amount of clothing. I have found myself often doing the same thing because of that cultural influence.

I sometimes get criticized about wearing the same few shirts, pants, shoes, and sweaters over and over again from my family. At least, that is one thing that I have in common with the people there.
P.S. No need for anyone to buy me some new clothes, shoes, etc.
OK, now I have a better idea why my Nikolaev friends worry about me on my on in Kiev.
First I think Bakkara is a little boutique hotel like I found in Odessa. Instead it is a 200 rum floating barge.
Last night I discover the disco is not like discos in Nikolaev.
It is a prostitution operation. I went down about 22 00, was the only single male customer.
Talk about feeling like a piece of meat. I certainly feel for the good looking girls who get objectified like that.
I will confess to doing a couple of things I have never done before. Kind of glad my girlfriend dumped me now.
I guess I am a pretty inexperienced 60 year old.
Back in the United States arriving in the same condition as I left, with a cold. This time I do not appear to have the sinus infection. But I picked up some antibiotics just in case. Returning through US immigration and customs was much nicer than my memories from many years ago.
A couple of folks expressed concern about my burn rate while in Nikolaev. It was of course higher than I will be able to afford when I move. I calculated it in terms of my current "disposable income" which is what I have left each week after all of the bills and recurring expenses are paid. For this four week trip I spent 20 weeks worth of disposable income. So it will take another sixteen weeks to get the bank account back to were I started.
When I relocated to my present location, living in rented accommodation, little if any kitchen facilities, no fridge etc. I/we were eating at restaurants twice daily, I was out drinking each evening etc., I was getting thru the money at quite a fast rate of knots.
These days, in my own home, with a restaurant kitchen, the other day 10kg of FRESH chickens cost me a shade over $3 per kg, pork costs around $4 per kg, if I want fish I can nip down to the local fish market and buy a fresh out of the sea yellow fin tuna or whatever, throw it on the BBQ, cook up some rice with soy sauce and chilli and my day to day food expenses can be nigh on bugger all.
It's different being a tourist to being a resident.
I came across some reviews for Anastasiadate.com and one of the commenters referenced that User name on a review website. I did find some of the ladies on this site also have a profile on Anastasiadate.com Many agencies most likely also add their profiles to this website. This site would also operate similar to Anastasia if you were not a VIP member. That is, pay per letter. Video chat is only free for the first three minutes and then you are charged $1 USD each additional minute (for agency profiles).
"Is that where the tour ends? In a bar with prostitutes?"
Yeah, and it was a lot of fun.
So the firsts for me were private room, lap dance and two girl lap dance.
I did not understand until we were into it that this was just the preliminary sales job.
It was intense. If I were 10 years younger I probably would have bought the whole package.
The room was very good sized.
So after they failed to close the deal, I am showing the younger one some dance moves.
After a few minutes she is jumping up and down and clapping her hands.
Like the little girl she used to be not so many years ago.
Prostitutes are people. If I had bought the whole package, I would not feel guilty. I would be happy to have fun and help some girls out.
So anyway, we are back at my table. The girls are still working me and finishing their drinks.
The older girl sees me eyeing our drop dead gorgeous waitress. She says we can add her to the package.
I very nearly pulled the trigger than. But me? Three girls? No Viagra?
I think I will add "pay drop dead gorgeous waitress to spend the night with me" to my bucket list
If I do, I will not feel guilty.
"Be wary of STD AKA the "pain from down under"."
Oh yeah. 60 YO and never had one.
Not going to start now.
