"If I went back, I’d probably tip more than ever."
First of all you're not going back... ever.
Secondly tipping is not that common in Ukraine. You can tip in the big cities such as Kyiv and it's considered acceptable but not demanded. Some Ukrainians don't tip at all. In some towns, they'd look at you as though you had three heads if you left a tip. They'd say what is that?
I hope that Ukraine doesn't become like the US where you have to tip everywhere.
"well, like i said, i have lived in ukraine as a visitor. when i would meet a girl, she would eventually say, what do you do? what are you doing here? well if you pause and fumble...or you say you are just living here looking for a girl, i think you lose the girls trust. what she will think? that you are playboy? you are desparate? maybe you can't find a girl in your own country. she might not say that to you but she will think it. i've seen the look of disappointment in a girls eye when this happens, it really sucks."
And you would have seen the same look of disappointment in her eyes when you told her you were an English teacher. I checked out the school you worked (AEC Kyiv) at and they pay 125UAH/hour. I mean who goes to Ukraine to teach English? How can you survive on that? You can't even take a girl to lunch on that money. And that's what probably happened with you.
Reposting again for RB--"regardless of wether you been overseas or not your lack of wisdom on such important matters had been hard copy. Just stop making up excuses for your mistake(s)...a simple retraction would have been good enough...being a tough cookie only works ( for ) chicks."
That's also to answer your questions in "plain English". By the way, I am now living in California, PM me if you would like to settle this with a few IPA rounds.
What is IPA? IPA here is beer from the local breweries. Too complicated for me. My friends at church, nonetheless are trying to get me away from the cheap, Bud or Coors light.
You want to get physical? I'm in. I am always ready for a fight, but I never get into one. I did 30 pull ups (3 sets) last Saturday in eleven minutes. Not bad for 58, I think. The last time someone guessed my age, it was early 40's.
You have not explained what mistake I made with the VAT. It is added to the purchase price and I used vocabulary that is congruent with all countries. Further, I put, "if applicable". When you buy anything, the price they quote you includes sales tax or VAT. What other important matters does the buyer have to know other than pay it?
I am not going to PM you. You want something, you PM me.

First of all,,,, you know jack shit about when or if I’m ever going back!!! I can say that with 100% honesty, because I don’t know. My schedule is governed more by work and weather than personal desire.
If I decide to try it again, I would join this website in Oct and search like hell for two months. If no one panned out, I probably wouldn’t go.
Then there’s the war! If things escalate, like I believe they will, then no one should go.
As for tipping,,,,, why would I listen to you about tipping??

Hate to say it but all that is true, especially in small towns/ villages. Don't use credit cards.
LR, things will scaled and the ruble will continue to loss value but not war will happen if anything, Russia will implode.
First, Come on back LR, even if just to visit. Of course you know I am biased.
tipping is slowly becoming widespread, especially in major urban cities although the amounts are woefully small for many who do tip.
However, as a creature of habit and often patronizing the same places, the employees know myself and others who tip well and we always get
the best tables and service.
at a bar or club, making a good tip up front on the first round and dropping a hint that such offerings will continue guarantees good service over other patron mosts of the time.
Ive also learned Ukrainian tactics for the weekend. People trying to impress others will often call ahead and reserve the best tables although the staff may not be
well rewarded for it. Me, OTOH, can book a table and they do it because its guaranteed money even if it means shafting the others.
My friend Andrei loves to go out partying with me because he has the social status but Im willing to put out the extra to grease the palms. A good combination.
I wouldnt worry so much about the war. Russia is slowly imploding. lasat summer at this time, Putin was offering as much as $300/day to fight in Ukraine. Fast forward to now and soldiers havent been paid on time, there is more forced Russian soldiers in Ukraine and the pay now is a mere $56/day. Great for Russians but many start to ask themselves if its enough money to die for, if they manage to get paid at all.
Although its very well hidden from the media, people in both Russia and Donbas are dying of hunger. Russia simply cannot afford Crimea or Donbas

you had answered your own question..Are you drunk?

you must be drunk when posting this macho stuff. Physical! coping kung fu Panda won't do any good. any way, California is still part of the Wild, Wild West dude. Last be not least, congrats on being in shape but now, focus work in your IQ, cause we all have been easily screwing your head.
RB posted:"I am not going to PM you. You want something, you PM me." this is how chicks is HS talk....you must be from the Bay Area
"You had answered your own question..Are you drunk?"
Drunk from Bud Light? I only drink one or two of those at a time. A 30 pack will last me almost two months. You said you wanted to settle this with IPA. By drinking? And you accuse me of being drunk?
Focus on your own IQ because I see you make things up and make yourself an intellectual. I am not from the Bay Area by a long shot.
"I am not going to PM you. You want something, you PM me." this is how chicks is HS talk"
This is pure stupidity. It was you who wanted to PM. How does an intellectual like you tell it? If it is how HS chicks talk then so be it. I got my point accross.
"Drunk from Bud Light? I only drink one or two of those at a time. A 30 pack will last me almost two months. You said you wanted to settle this with IPA. By drinking? And you accuse me of being drunk?"
You don't had to be mad if you don't like to drink IPA for free...if it is Bud Light, then have it. I don't drink beer since wine is better and cheaper.... Why are you crying.??? Never mind what I said about your girlie High School level replies.. You just got upgraded to Drama Queen status.
"Never mind what I said about your girlie High School level replies.. You just got upgraded to Drama Queen status."
What the hell does that mean? Do you even know what you are talking about? You ran out of intelligent things to say? If I am that in your world, what does that say about your IQ. And you talk about mine?
IPA for free? I get it when I want it. Like I said, I have friends who want me to drink with them. I don't need it from you.

So when was the last time you were in Ukraine? Back in Soviet?
Even in small villages they wait for tips in any small cafe.
I think you've actually never been to Ukraine and all you know about my country you just googled that.
Here in California a bottle of wine is cheaper than six pack of beer at Walmart. While in Ukraine, beer is cheaper than a bottle of Mirgorodskaya water.
Success can be subjective. Therefore, many judge themselves and others by comparing. One who has a better car, more money, bigger house is a success, and the other is a failure. Comparison is impossible in a forum situation. Therefore, some found it convenient to skip the comparing part and just accuse the other of being a failure.
It is unfounded, but the accuser then feels like a success even if he actually has not achieved anything.
