Well it doesn't seem a week (ish) ago you questioned if it would make it to 41 RUB but now at 44.5 RUB you question if it will make it to 45 RUB ... Perhaps you should be questioning if it will make it to 50 RUB!
Actually, it's the _fall_ of the ruble. This thread is titled "economic consequences". Naturally, some will find this dull ... probably better to read elsewhere!
Well we could do worse, we could fight and squabble with each other, bitch and moan, attack each others nations and nationalities, boast that one has a wife and ankle biters whilst other(s) don't etc. ... or we can simply be boring whilst minding our own business :)
Personally, if I post the ruble rate it may be interpreted as me voicing my support for the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation for their invasion and taking of Ukraine illegally, their arming of the rebels and the bringing down and murder of 298 innocent souls aboard MH17 ... Sorry to be boring but it's something I feel strongly about!
RT,,, but isn’t the US the only country that placed sanctions against Cuba?? I believe Canada trades with Cuba and has had travel there thru the years.
I thought I read recently in the news that the U.N. condemned the USA embargo on Cuba? Yes, I think the USA may be the only one that placed a trade embargo on the island country. They showed an interview with Fidel Castro soon after the Cuban revolution and he stated directly that he was not a Communist. I think when the USSR installed those ballistic missiles on the island in 1962 that was the final straw. Fidel protested their removal after the USSR agreed to remove them. And then you have that Bay of Pigs incident. And then the supposed assassin of JFK lived in the USSR for a while. Oswald also passed out leaflets concerning "Fair Play for Cuba". The regime has not changed and time has stood still in that island from the 1950s. Maybe "bury the hatchet"? Perhaps, but mostly likely in someone's head.
Oswald's comment about Minsk.
"I am starting to reconsider my desire about staying. The work is drab, the money I get has nowhere to be spent. No nightclubs or bowling alleys, no places of recreation except the trade union dances. I have had enough."
Maybe things have not changed much since that time?
Yes, factually , but America is close, historically tied and willing to partner with property rights honored. Russia used it for bargaining, but has abandoned it and who else gives a shit. The whole Caribbean is neglected and isolated other than the "all inclusive" resorts. That is a local tragedy.
Cuba is a serious holiday destination for Spanish and Italian speakers, it only seems to be the US that has a problem with Cuba, a close British friend of mine lives in Cuba and has a Cuban wife and kid there.
I believe the travel ban for Americans had been lifted a few years ago. My ex wanted me to take her to a country of my choosing,,,,, and Cuba was on the list.
I had first told her, that I would think about it! From her reaction,,, I must have been the first guy that didn’t jump at the opportunity.
Many of the countries that both FSU and Americans can travel to, have severe crime, civil unrest, or a hatred of Americans.
