well I am going back for my I think 10th trip. My lady will meet me at the airport and we will spend the 6 days in Kiev. I may have found what I am looking for but time will tell.
Sweet! Good luck man, we will have to meet up again when you return.
I am heading back home to USA with my girl, we finally got our K1 Visa all squared away. So, off to Florida in mid October. But first to Egypt for the honeymoon. Think they sell chew there?? LOL.
Got 2 free first class tickets home to USA so I am excited to see the look on her face when she finds out that she gets to sit in the front of the bus. :)
She is used to the marshutkas and always refuses my offer for a taxi so it should be a nice treat for her.
yah I'll bring a couple logs this time. by the way the girl in Kiev is done, after going back to Sumy some things changed. Mine wont do taxi either wants to ride the bus to the airport. I'm sure the girls will get along. we should be there for 6 days then its back home for me. seems strange and much less complicated only seeing one for a change :)
That's OK about the girl in Kiev, she spoke Russian anyways. Sounds like now you have a real Ukrainian girl if she refuses the taxi?!?
I guess this one is full blooded?
She might want to ride the bus, but as you know, you don't when you get here. If you need a number for a cheap taxi to pick her up, and meet you at the airport, let me know. Last time I did this it was 200 griv round-trip (pick her up in Kiev center, get me at airport, wait for my plane to come in and me clear customs, and back to center) which is great considering you will get asked for 500 from the pimps pandering at the door for one-way to center from Borrispool.
Normal fare is under 250 griv one-way to airport or from.
As for not seeing more than one, well, get used to it. At least pretend to get used to it. My girl reminds me all the time that is what being married is about. Now that I have her, it is a lot easier to swallow that pill.
lol I normally pay 200-250 from the airport. or 30 us. well I have chosen to stay single for a long while since I was having to much fun. I did learn a lot from all the girls I met. I guess you get the chance to meet her. since I arrive in the morning she will probably just come to the apartment when I go get her.
oh and yup she is Ukrainian. and can you believe 42 never would have guessed me finding one that age that could keep up. you know snowboarding water sports and such.
I have found that I prefer the larger buses with individual seats when traveling in Ukraine. I think it seemingly safer to have a larger vehicle. When I drive myself or in a cab I find myself behind a slow truck or Russian car and wanting to pass or getting passed by Mercedes that is completely over driving the conditions. Sometimes the Mercedes is going the opposite direction. At home, I wouldn't even consider the bus

42 - well thats good to read !!!
Great age - for us fellas. Not poluted with the "New Age" BS etc
Good luck man - hope all goes well for you both
My wife has just returned from 3 weeks in Kiev - poor girl - 3 weeks of furniss. She was working every hour she was ther buying clothes. I had to stay behind and watch the bloody staff in our shops. But she said - there was NO way I would have managed the heat. Her coldest day was 37 and max of 41
Hi Maxi long time no see.
it was hot but cooled down now. funny thing is never exchanged a single letter with her until after we met. we mostly yahoo or use facebook. and your right about the new age BS, should be back in 5 days and 4 weeks cant wait. then I'm stuck back here until March.
from Charlotte NC the airfare to Kiev is crazy. What city in Ohio is only 580 to Kiev? I tried from New York on Aerosvit thru Moscow onto Kiev. Every time I go to Kiev from Charlotte the ticket is 1,000+
Confusing, Capt Greg -- you are responding to a different thread!
That fare was from last year, when AeroSvit (the Ukrainian "national carrier") had some very intense promotions, with $398 roundtip fares from New York to Kyiv (tax included!) on certain dates. Passenger traffic was almost dead at that time -- with traffic recovering, such offers aren't likely to be repeated!
At that time, I read about a man making a 15000+ mile roundtrip to Moscow WHO HAD NO INTEREST IN VISITING RUSSIA (at Moscow, he simply registered for the return flight), because the ticket was only a few hundred bucks -- and the value of the frequent flyer miles was a lot more than the cost of his ticket. The flights were so empty that he was able to sleep comfortably, stretched across a full center row of economy seats.
the cost has risen to around 900 from CMH it came down from 1300. I have seen a few places advertise cheaper fares but have not found any I could use. my last flight was almost empty had 2 seats to myself. I only had a limited number of days off this time so I had to fly on the weekend both ways the cost was 957 round trip. I even have the 12 hour layover in Amsterdam this time.
Yes, I agree that Aeroflot from JFK to SVO and on to KBP is the best deal now. October will be my fourth trip to Ukraine in the past year. US AIRWAYS (my old frequent flyer miles) wanted more than 4,000 dollars for a RT into Kharkov,"NO THANKS" HA! HA! Going to KBP seems to be the best fare from the States. In Boryspil I choose the Hotel Airport (380442817376) free 10 minute shuttle to and from from airport, shopping center near hotel, restaurant and friendly staff. I usually take the train from Kiev to Kharkov. Only 10 days this time.
Most times, the ticket sites have high prices to Kharkov and yet still connect in Kiev. It is much better to buy the tickets separately, but be careful not to make too short a layover. You will get burned for the ticket. It still will be cheaper regardless though. If you are planning on staying in several cities, buy a ticket with multiple destinations. It will save you considerably. I will be flying from London Heathrow to Istanbul for a week and then on to Simferopol for two more weeks and then back to London via Istanbul for $536. I am also having my lady fly from Simferopol to Istanbul to meet me and she will accompany me back to Simferopol. That round trip is $268. The flight from Simferopol is just over an hour, so I will be in Istanbul before she boards the plane. For her consideration, I will call her first. Stopping over makes for a more relaxing trip and no worry of missed flights and being marooned in an airport. I will be looking to buy a sailboat under U.S. flag ported in Turkey. Then sailing the Aegean and Mediterranian Seas on vacations. My personal time share.
