That is a very good point. In my own case I start with a cautious assumption that she is completely honest. However a woman that is quickly calling me her 'prince' and dreaming of me after 2 emails I question both her sanity and conviction. I don't want to hear about her coffe getting cold as she peers out the window and dreams of me. I want to know what she does for a living and how is her kid doing in school. Just my perspective.
Toad,
For the most part, I agree with the prerequisite of meeting the entire family, but an unwilling family member is not necessarily reflective of the lady. I did not meet her brother or her father. Brother had personal issues. Father is very patriotic. One well-timed and well-written (Oh, popped my shoulder out patting myself on that one.) letter has opened the door to father on the next trip.
Like I said, I agree with you for the most part. I don't want a lady in defiance of her family, but I don't want to feel like I'm dating the father either.
OK, Ditto
What does 'very patriotic' mean?
So is Lena's mother, to the point of only wanting to travel within Russian borders whenever she has vacations. Lena has to blackmail her into going with her out of the country. But Nadya above anything else wants her children to find happiness and their own way in life, even if it means creating a family somewhere else and with a person from another land.
And to prove this point to her daughter she busted her ass preparing a dinner feast to welcome me when I came to visit.
Her 20 yr old brother made a bigger sacrifice, or at least he felt like he did, lol...He broke up a date with his girlfriend to be there.
Her father passed away two years ago, unfortunately.
He was a leutenient coronel in the russian army.
That would have been interesting..!!
The important part of the equation for me was to find from the get go if the lady has any problems whatsoever letting her family know that she is entertaining the idea of dating and marrying a foreigner.
A selfish parent can easily throw a wrench in the program.
They'll be enough saparation anxiety for everyone without the need to rub it in to cause guilty trips.
Without exception, among the honest women I found, there is a strong bond among FSU family members. They're proud of it, they practice it daily and it is true that in their cases when you marry the woman, you're also adopting and being adopted into a new family nucleus.
Nothing like it is in the west for the most part, specially in the US.
Patriotic- pA-trE-'ä-tik, 1. former Russian military, 2. only a Russian or Ukrainian man will do for his daughter, 3. how can you think of taking my grandson so far away?, 4. those evil Americans, 5. I want my daughter to be happy.
#5 is where I appealed to him. I told him we both want the same thing. Dad isn't trying to throw a wrench into it, he just didn't think it was the best solution. She knew he would eventually come around and he is.
I think we're in agreement, though. No body wants to fight the family for the daughter's hand. She'll need their support. It's the old triangle. She loves me, she loves them, they hate me. How do you resolve the conflict? Answer: avoid it.
Tough situation there Ditto. My Jenia's father also military. Both parents welcomed me with open arms though. They trust their daughter's judgement and want her to be happy. I know that they were thrilled to see daughter and grandson both laughing and smiling the whole time I spent with them. Jenia has a brother that moved to Germany 14 years ago and her parents has only seen him and his kids once in those 14 yrs. That is what they are afraid of happening. No matter what I tell them, they have doubts about seeing Jenia and Alex again.
One visit to them within the first 18 months after they come here will cure their fears and sense of being abandoned...then the'll start bitching at their son and leave you laone, lol
Speaking of the parents visiting, is it not true that a tourist visa must be granted to the parents to visit a child? (Talking about US and also not about parents that traffic drugs and blow up buildings.)
Generally, I tend to think that a good woman was raised by good parents. But I don't remember reading that Jeffrey Dahlmer's parents were also cannibals.
I don't speak any American English at all, just English, so even if I wanted to I could not take offense ;-) Got no dialect either in English, although am quite capable to speak them in several languages.
Halaal is the word used for slaughtering processes or in general for food-preparing rituals, of food for Indians and Muslims. 'Kosher' is for the Jewish variant, and they differ a bit (or a lot, dunno much about it). For instance, I presume we all know that pork may not be eaten, it cannot be halaal, and an animal should bleed to death rather than shot or 'butchered' as Izi called it. Several of the fast food chains here advertise their offerings as being certiefied halaal, I presume to increase their turnover, but I promise you you cannot taste it :)
In school I learned that cockney is an accent spoken in London, exclusively in the area covered by the Big Ben's bells.
I doubt if this is true, but funny it sounds indeed - and is sometimes. The rhyming slang is beyond comprehension for the uninitiated, and I certainly am, if only because I've never been in the UK :)
Mind you, Gladiator can tell you more about Cumbrian - if ever there was an awful accent (no offense Gladdie :) this is it. I promise you you'll be lost completely if addressed in this language - because it is in fact.
I understood you well IZZI the one time i did talk to you unless your (cockney)has worn off. On the other hand i was in Key West one and a half year ago and was drinking next to four drunk scotsman who were just back from fishing for blue marlin. Now doesn`t a Scotsman speak english? But i couldn`t understand a word they were saying . These guys carried on like neanderthals . I mean their whole conversation was grunts growls snorting noises, ho , hhmmmmm buit they all understood eachother quite well. But i couldn`t . Needless to say i saw them later on that all changed to wearing kilts and sunburned to the max . Man could these guys throw down the beer!!
