At the risk of pissing off all the born and bred Americans in about a 500 mile radius I want to get something off my chest. I have lived in the USA for the last 20 years. I am a citizen. However I am also a citizen of Britain which also makes me a citizen of the whole of Europe. I could get on a plane today and be going for a job or claiming unemployment in Italy, Germany, France or anywhere else over there. I am lucky in this respect. To be perfectly honest with you I am fed up this US life style. Always worried about having a job that actually pays you enough to survive on. Never being able to get ahead with the bills, debt a way of life, shallow people with shallow lives etc etc etc. This trip to Russia taught me and reminded me of many things. The biggest one was to be strongly reeducated that America, sorry the USA, is not the center of the world. It is a very small corner of the world with a very large opinion of itself. Totally self absorbed to the detriment of everyone else. There is life outside the USA as is demonstrated by our ladies in or from FSU. Not just there but also the rest of Europe, Africa, Far East and on and on. They have complete lives with families and friends, careers, hopes and are not the slightest bit enamoured with the USA. The thought of battering down the door to get in is of no interest to them. How many profiles have you seen where the girl specifies European men only. I have seen quite a few. It isn't just because it is quicker to get home for a visit! Corporate America has managed to create an atmosphere, not just where I work but generally, to make you feel like crap about yourself and cause you to feel that the only reason that you are continued to be employed is out of the goodness of their hearts. Women here are beyond words. The necessity to become an expert on medicine, insurance, car mechanics and a million other things is overwhelming. Everybody is trying to rip everybody else off to make money and protect themselves. Then the great anesthetic to this is TV and movies and the Playstation and the shops. A neverending circle of nothing and pointlessness. Is it any wonder that kids take guns to school and go out in a blaze of gunfire? This trip flipped a switch in me. It happened one day while walking down Prospect Lenin in Ekaterinburg. I am not going to do any more backflips at work or be as accomodating. I fully intend going to Russia again in the summer for 2 weeks. I don't care what it takes. If I meet resistance I will take the time anyway. If I am laid off which is how it works where I am I will sell everything and go back to Europe. Start fresh. They couldn't even let me enter the country without locking my ass up again despite being a citizen. Can anybody say FREEDOM or is it just a word? They know how to make you feel welcome coming 'home'. Don't anybody get the wrong idea I don't want to live in Russia. Also I don't hate the USA. I think the US is a wonderful place but so is Guatemala that doesn't mean anything. Maybe I am just thrown off by NOR's ability to be in FSU in 1 hour or something but right now I could leave Florida in a heartbeat. Leave it to the fat tourists and over indulged, under educated masses who have nothing but a superficial respect for one another and spout about freedom without any knowledge of what that really means. I don't want to go on a rant here (a la Miller) but I the most wonderful aspect of life in the US is the opportunity, imperfect as it maybe to prosper as an independent worker. It cures anything and everything corporate america throws at you. From these couple only two had been met via Internet. They are getting along OK. I thik this is individual, and it is up to every one of us to make it happen or not. Your actions can make it healthy and last for years to come, or break in thousand pieces... Some times people just drift apart, nothing to do about it.. I don't think it is any higher risk with FSU women than any other woman.
