As usual, things didn't turn out as planned, far from it!!! My hope each time is to find a girl that I can develop a relationship and both of us are heading in same direction. To fill you in on last days in Odessa, 2 girls from fiance flaked out, which I figured on, two I met from anastasia didn't go anywhere, one wanted to be taken care of and other wanted her interpreter to be present, these ended quickly. Good thing for me, my decision making process moves rather quickly, which is a good thing. As I stated before, I have friends that own a restaurant in odessa, so it became my hang out, just as my other trips to odessa. I flirted as usual with a couple girls from previous trips that work in kitchen. I do have to say, these type of girls are ideal if looking for a good women, they are hard working for not much pay. They are not influenced by marrige agencies but only drawback is little if any english spoken. In fact, this time sit in restaurant was open finally. Which brought to my attention a few waitresses!!! :))) I know I am a dog but I have a weakness for young beautiful girls!!!!!! This first time seeing them and I am sure I got their atttention by knowing some of guys working there( including the owner)and the conversations were in english. They have a crazy schedule, so I didn't know who was working when. First girl I met was very young, probably just 18, smiled at me everytime by me, very pleasent and tried to speak english to me when taking order. I liked her service so much I gave her a $10 tip. My friend saw girl's face, she was shocked, and told me it was probably more than she earns in 1 day...made her day!!!!! Other girl working, probably 20, was cute but not very personal. Next girl I saw there was very coordial and professional, probably around 22, but when I sat with friends who work there she turned into funny and excitable girl, cracking jokes and laughing a lot, I remember those eyes...riveted on me...body swaying to the background music, if she wasn't flirting with me...I would never know!!!! If her english was better, maybe something could have happened. I gave her a nice tip and told my friend to tell her thank you for an entertaining evening. That night, 3 girls (waitresses)went out to disco. Talk about a change of look....with short tight dresses and showing clevage...they had my attention!!! Girls can look so different!!! I was tempted to join them but I figure they would have better time with each other, noisy place is not for trying to speak another language. Well, day before I was leaving, I went to restaurant with my friend from States( he was in Nikolaev) to show him restaurant and introduce him to some of guys I know there. I saw a brunette working there, caught my attention as she walked away from where I was standing and wondered who she was since I thought I met all waitresses. Wow.....what a body..nice tight black pants with flat shoes. She looked around 20-21 and had me hypnotized. My friend even had his necked turned a few times. Hmmmm...... 166cm and 51km and all flowing in rhythm as she walked across the floor, sorry couldn't help myself!!! :))))She came to my table and I told her 2 pivas....large...she gave a nice smile. Kept thinking of reasons to have her come to my table so I can ask something about her. English was so-so. The owner as he had several times before, asked me which girl I liked. It had changed a several times but now it was Ula. we made eye contact several times and she smiled each time. As with all guys, we look for signs of a girls interest. This is a little different because I am the customer and she is worker but there are little things a girl can do to show interest. Toward end of her shift, she let her hair down...looked even more attractive. Had to comment on her beauty with her hair down, darn good russian I spoke, me with the russian compliments of girls down pat. Still don't know how to ask if girl has boyfriend!!!! Asked my friends the low down on Ula...all good...many young guys do like to come in and flirt with her and I don't blame them, I would!!! I asked her to come to table and I asked if she was leaving, she said yes and I slipped her a 50 hyr and told her it was for her...not for the bill. She blushed and thank me in english and even asked if she would see me again. I said of course, if she worked next day. Well that night, we smoked that 'peace pipe'(a flavored smoke through water). Next day I was sicker than a dog, my stomach was turning like it was speed of light. Not sure why or where this came from but kept me in bed. My friend left during day and I stayed in bed. Where was imodium when you need it( it will be in my medicine bag next time). Struggled that evening to get ready to go to restaurant to see my friends one last time. Drank only juice and no food. Spirits were raised when I saw Ula......dressed very nice this time..with heels and her hair was down. I was teased several times from friends...they saw what was going on. Ula came to my table several times, asking if I needed anything....if she knew what was going through my mind.....I told her it was my last night, I was leaving in the morning and I asked her if she would like to stay in touch with me. She said yes and gave me her phone number. Don't know where this will go but life has it's way. By the way, I was asked many times, every trip to odessa, how is US? Many questions about political and economic situation. Never was I threatened by anyone, even when there were dozens of guys from Middle east hanging around. To me, people are people, there is good and bad in all!!! I can't wait to get home and back into my groove. No matter where I go, life here for me cannot be beat anywhere else in world. All of my nine trips so far have been memorable - but with each one - toward the end I would hit a point where I couldn't WAIT to get home and back to my regualt existance, as humble as it may be. Perhaps I would stay longer withouth that anxiousness if I actually spoke the language - but for now 3 to 4 weeks is about my maximum. Danny,i understand your points about women, i enjoy reading about stories that are through someones eyes. As I understand, you are in a small town in Russia. Many people here write about girls in ukraine, so if we talk about more girls than guys, it is what we see, do not say we are wrong. Maybe what is happening is I only have eyes for girls....who knows...but there are almost 2 million more girls than guys in ukraine in the 15-64 range. You are right there is more male kids than female kids( up to 14). I think girls can and will leave their country but guy is worth it....it all depends on what you have to offer and what girls needs are, if they match up..... plain and simple. Don't get caught up on the looks thing....what is most important is when someone opens their mouth and what comes out. It doesn't matter if they are 20 years younger, girl could be 25 but act 18 or she can be 25 and act 35. Only on one trip (to Latvia) did I really have to fend for myself - and there most people spoke englsih. On TWO trips I attended Romance Socials where there are people to help you - and I ended up with english speaking women in the end. On SIX of those trips I had an excellent english speaking lady with me 24/7 - from the time I arrived till I departed. 1 + 2 + 6 = 9 trips. YOU GUYS who write letters and try to make it to one city or another to meet this girl or that - are the one's for which it is critical to learn. I WOULD like to learn the language in order to get around without the help of my lady. I merely point out that so far I haven't HAD to. There are big differences between my technique of choice (Romance Socials) and the letter writing campaigns MOST guys here conduct. Letter-writing-guys have to work much harder getting from place to place on their own to meet multiple girls. No doubt its more of an adventure than I typically have, and it takes a little more adaptation (learning the language etc.) but there is also a lot more "dead time" as you are without female companionshp while making it from one lady to another. But I come from an area that that are few courses taught on the subject and vey few Russian speakers. One smal private local university offers "Conversational Russian I & II" and I DID once sign up for the course. But scheduling conficts caused me to miss the once weekly classes (2 hours each) too often. I use Pimsleur's CDs (which include NO written work) and "Russian in Your Car" CDs which DO have written work requiremnets. But its a poor substiture for actual classes. HAVING to learn the language (by immersion in an FSU country) is probably the most efective - but I have it so I never HAVE to learn it to get around - and so I haven't learned it yet. jetmba. Your explanation seems credible. Then the only OTHER likely candidate would be "apal". He's the one who takes advice on women from his 12 yr old nephew and his friends - and who thinks that all Ukrainians secretly scorn us for celebrating Christmas on a different day than they do. (He honestly wrote those things), and who thinks its a great idea to spend $1,000 per night on a room in the FSU yet cannot figure out why the women then seem only interested in money. He made one trip to Ukraine- where he was mostly stood up and ended up talking to translators - then he proceded to tell all of us what we were doing wrong. Later he went to Kiev. He has shown up with multiple personalities before, including Heidi Dog and others. He doesn't have the guts to show himself here anymore - and has popped in quite a few times as various other characters. jetmba.
