Every country has it faults! References have been made, going back in history, to ill treatment of Indians, British convicts exiled to an island far away from home etc. etc. etc. One thing that cannot be changed is history so let's bring things up to the modern day, the 21st century. Those convicts exiled to Australia were, to the best of my knowledge, given a fair trial, convited as being guilty and subsequently deported. Would you care to offer an opinion of what the fock is going on at the American base in Cuba at the moment, in the 21st century? Correct me if I am wrong but are these people not being kept in cages for up to 23 hours per day, they have been held since 2002 (ish) on an island, far away from their homeland, illegally detained and without trial. If these people are so obviously guilty then why are they not tried, convicted and have sentences imposed upon them or do the USA have a similiar amount of evidence of guilt on these people as much as they had evidence of the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? The point here is what image is the USA portraying to the rest of the world and is it the sort of country where a young person, an FSU lady, would like to relocate to, to live and raise her children in? The USA, for a number of years, and in particular since the Soviet Union dissolved whom the USA had been shit-scared of, has been making up the rules as they go along, ignoring international laws and basically throwing their weight around. This is the image being portrayed around the world, like it or not. Yes, a high proportion of FSU ladies will think of all the good things regarding a move to the USA, perhaps like a kid in a candy store, but please do not think for one minute that all FSU ladies are so hungry to move to USA that they will fall at an American's feet and that is the truth. wtrav02 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 11/22/2005 4:45:32 AM   Guantanamo would look a monastery comparing to the butcher shops CIA has set up in Eastern European countries and in many other places to "interrogate" (that means medieval torture) terror suspects ... Unfortunately, the United States, by all means a great country, even without the rich history of other countries, has sunk into the dark ages under this republican administration. I am not against all republicans. Simply, Bush and company is the most unpatriotic, unamerican, and harmless to the nation administration ever. I mentioned recently that ladies on a particular site will receive perhaps 150 emails per day, that is fact. Let us say that 50 are from USA, 50 from Europe and 50 from the rest of the world. The lady then has a varied choice to choose from, there is no love involved at this selection stage, she can opt for a man from a particular part of the world and only thereafter love may become a pertinent factor. To hold, indefinitely, year after year after year, is illegal under any reasonable law. You are confusing criminals with combatants. These folks are basically POW's but are not referred to as that because under international law POW has a certain definition one being the are a member of an organized military under the umbrella of a nation state. Look into your own history and try and find how many German prisoners held by the Brits were ever tried, other than specific war criminals. You will find none. They were not captured during thae attacks of 9/11, they were 'rounded up' during an invasion of Afganistan and there is a high probability that they had fock all to do with 9/11. It's the current administration that is so evil. Bush latched his "leadership" on the 9-11 windfall (to him), and used to behave like an emperor. His arrogant attitude toward the world is not different from his attitude toward his political opponents in his own country. His popularity is now less than 34% and he is having a hard time adjusting to it. The plan of the Bush camp to sweep the middle east was simply facilitated and expedited by 9-11. They would invade Iraq, which they thought they would go through like a train and move next to Syria and Iran. They miscalculated and now they're f***** up and don't know how to get out. Most of Americans my an overwhelming majority want the troops out now. Bush camp is so desparate, they'll do anything to turn things around, they'll torture innocent, they'll kill innocent, they'll gas innocent. History will speak for all of these. Your guess is as good as mine as to the alleged innocence or guilt of any of these detainees in Gtmo or any other places they are being held, interrogated, tortured, gassed or decapitated. But when I see any group of people kidnapping innocent civilians, executing them in barbaric fashion, tape and advertise their undeserved deaths and watch how muslim paper and communities the world over celebrate this acts kinda sorta makes me wanna puke, makes my blood boil a little, you know? Makes me want my government to dish out a little eye for an eye justice not only to the perpetrators but also to anyone supporting them, aiding and abaiting them. Or even cheering the fucking bastards. We can debate it till the 'cows come home' without an agreeable solution. But I am presently grateful to the Bush administration for taking the war against terrorists to the land of the terrorists..(can anyone here or anyone else refute or argue that islamic culture countries breed the very same terrorists that we are fighting against?) It seems perfectly reasonable to me to take the fight to them instead of waiting for them to bring it to us, near my home or children's schools even though their attacks cannot be avoided altogether as London , Madrid and other world cities have been witnesses. Most of us are not directly affected by any of this, are we? Does it make sense to get all riled up about it? I hope not...I know I'm not. Thats because I believe I have things to offer a woman. It's not really a political issue, it is a few with some radical views of what the US is like. And their expertise on certain laws of this country, which neither reside in for one reason or another. I had to deal with this issue with Larissa. A few extremists here like to broadbrush the US as nothing but lawless gun toting criminals, with shoot outs on every corner of the street in the US. Which is so far from the truth. I think Bill hit it on the head, those of us that have conceal and carry permits are far from criminals or even extremists. Larissa had a small fear of being shot when coming to the US, because of what she has heard from so called experts on gun laws and criminal activity in the United States. When Larissa asked me why I had guns and had a permit to carry, I took the time to explain why, and how it was my constitutional right to carry one. It was a rather long discussion because it was based on our founders idea that armed citizens had the ability to repel a totalitarian government. Also the right to defend one's life and property from criminals and despots. As for international courts of law, a sovereign nation does not nor should not endorse such a body. Each country has it's sovereign right to help, declare war etc, without the approval of an international body. I do have a fundamental disagreement with my government on police powers, especially what is going on in Iraq. I do not believe, a sitting president should have the right to use troops to invade a country without a formal declaration of war. With that being said, do I support the invasion of Iraq, yes but with certain reservations. One being no formal declaration of war from Congress, we could have Declared war on Hussien and his regime and the outcome would be the same as it is now. Bin Laden and his loonies would still be insurgents in Iraq with the formal declaration. Also anyone who does not think Hussien had weapons of mass destruction has forgotten the scud missile attacks on Isreal during the first Gulf war. The missile is the messenger, the warhead is capable of delivering many different types of mass destruction. Ask the Kurds if Hussien had weapons of mass destruction. The big problem is most of our elected officials are cowards and do not want to put their vote on record about declaring war. While talking like hawks on the news, they act like cowards. If there was so much regret with the American people how come last week only three congressmen voted for immediate withdrawing of troops from Iraq. The liberals had there forum, but chose the chicken switch. They know more than two thirds of the population support this endeavor and we have young men and women in harms way and it is no time to play politics with young lives. There is currently minimal support for the war in the country, polls prove it, Bush's everyday struggle to prove the war is worthwhile proves it, facts from the battlefield prove it. Politicians in Washington are simply dead scared of another Kerry-like flip-flop and the ones with the guts to come out and tell the truth are only a handful. Bush is taking this baby to his grave. According to the logic of the coservatives, we should have invaded every nation, which owns wmd's, i.e. China, Russia, India. Why did we specifically choose the one, which in hindsight turned out it didn't have any? The scuds, even the long range ones, only had the ability to reach as far as Israel so what the fock has that to do with the USA? They're hardly likely to launch a short range scud and expect it to reach halfway around the world! You talk of war this, war that, that just about sums up the mentality of SOME Americans and their government, no wonder you're such a target wherever you may go! Now get back to school and read up on what a weapon of mass destruction is.
